Hip pain anyone?

Hi there,

I'm 14w6d today and over the past week or so I've been experience some annoying hip pain.  It started at night as I tossed and turn - got a little better with a body pillow - and now it's happening during the day.  I'm [pretty] sure it's totally normal, but it would be helpful to hear that other people are experiencing similar things.  My anxiety is getting the best of me and i've been jumping to all sorts of crazy conclusions about what it means.

Thanks ladies!

Re: Hip pain anyone?

  • Yes and it's horrible. Had it a little before the pregnancy but it has definitely gotten worse. Impacting my ability to walk distances and enjoy everyday summer activities like going for a hike or going shopping. I have seen my primary care dr, was referred to an orthopedic dr, and got a prescription for PT. I've been going to PT for 3 weeks and have seen 3 different providers. Everyone thinks it's something else and no one can determine the cause or solution. So frustrating!! The pain is now in my whole leg instead of just the hip.

  • One thing that helped for a little while is folding a huge comforter into thirds and sleeping on top of it to cut down on the pressure on my hip at night.
  • Yes normal and it just gets worse as your bump grows and you get more uncomfortable in general.
  • My hips are kind of popping when I move, if that make sense, but that I think is normal.

I had Pubic Symphosis Disorder (PSD), w/ my daughter, where I could not lay on my side at all b/c my pubic bone would overlap and then pop, audibly, in place when rolled to my back or tried to sit up.  It was terrible.  Anytime my hips were not aligned, basically, I could cry.  It has to do w/ my body producing too much hormone relaxin.

That was less my hips and more of my pubic bone though so not sure if that is what you have the beginnings of or not.

My OB said that it was likely to come back again and probably sooner than last time.  Joy!

  • I've had slight hip pain throughout the day as well. Usually it's only one side and then the other. Had some back pain too. I'm sure it's normal. The pain isn't too bad but I'm sure it will get worse haha
  • I get horrible hip pain during pregnancy.  it hasn't quite started yet for me, but i'm just waiting for it to come.  it's way worse towards the end when your hips begin to spread.  Sorry i'm not being more sympathetic.  I do know what you're talking about though and it does suck.  sorry :(

  • Being a maasage therapist, im going to suggest getting a massage. :-) I also get hip pain. Mostly on my left side, the pain will shoot down my glute and into my leg a bit. It makes walking and working awful! What I've found that helps is getting adjusted and then a massage shortly after.
  • I had this with my first pregnancy- but not until about 25 weeks or so.   It only lasted about a month.  I did see a chiro and got a massage that FELT AMAZING and helped.  I'm not entirely sure what made it go away.  Here's hoping yours is relatively short lived!
  • I had it with first pregnancy also. I HIGHLY recommend going to a reputable chiropractor. You will feel so much better.
  • I soak in a warm bath with Epsom salts. I also YouTubed and Pinterest searched stretches to help hip pain during pregnancy, and I do them nightly if possible. They seem to help a lot. I've had pretty bad hip pain and I'll be 15 weeks tomorrow. I'm on my feet all day at work so I'm sure it's a mixture of that and pregnancy.

  • I randomly dislocated my left hip yesterday so yep, I understand the hip pain.
