Cigars

Are your SOs getting cigars for after the birth? My DH and his family don't drink or smoke, but mine do and the men enjoy cigars at weddings and births. I'm not sure what to suggest to DH to do.

It was hilarious when my dad made him have a beer with him when we told him I was pregnant :)

Re: Cigars

  • We are handing out left over mustache lolly pops from my shower for after the birth. I would bring it up to your DH that your side will expect him to have them to celebrate and see what he says. He shouldn't have to smoke a cigar if he's against it but should at least go with traditions. I hear you need to know how to smoke them properly otherwise they make you sick the first time? I wouldnt want to have a sick husband and a new baby at the same time! GL and I love the sound of you family

My parents ordered the cigars and had the humidor engraved with the name we picked out for our son. They also had the plastic and rings personalized with my sons name and mine and my husband's name -- and nobody in both mine and my husband's family smokes! I told my mom it would probably end up not being used but my dad said that he and my husband and the other men will be enjoying the cigar--even if they don't know how :/
  • Lol my husband likes cigars when he goes golfing but has refrained, as the smell has made me sick during this pregnancy. After we come home and get settled, I imagine he and his golf buddies will go out to the clubhouse and enjoy a smoke around the fire pit to celebrate. But neither of our families are into this tradition, so it will just be him and his buds!!

  • My husband will have a cigar and whiskey when his family gets here. He enjoys both regularly so it's not unusual. What I think is funny is his mom who barley drinks and doesn't smoke will have one as well! She's this tiny little lady so it's just fun to see her drinking and smoking with the boys.
  • This is too funny. One reason I can't wait for baby to get here is so that I can enjoy a nice cigar with my husband. We have some of our best conversations over a glass of whiskey and a cigar. If your family is all about celebrating with cigars...maybe ask you father if he will provide them for the birth. Then your DH won't have to worry about it and maybe it will be a fun way for grandpa to have his own role in the birth.

  • I think we just had the silly little bubblegum ones for DD1!! Whatever he wants, I think, would be more than fine. We don't really have anyone that smokes in our families, so we just had fun!
  • We don't have any close friends living nearby, but if one passes through the area then I bet DH would buy a couple cigars. He's never smoked cigarettes, but him and his buddies do cigars for special occasions-like weddings (bought them for all his groomsmen for our wedding), and he did buy them for his buddies after our first was born.

  • DH smokes cigars sometimes so he bought some for the birth. He also stocked up on chocolate and bubblegum cigars he handed out to people who visited in the hospital and people seemed to really like them.

  • When my first was born we gave out bubblegum cigars so we will probably do something similar this time around.
