Trying to Get Pregnant

Anxious To test early

I don't know if I should test 5 days before my missed period which would be Friday.....or just be patient and wait to see if my period comes? Anyone else nearing their date to test?

  • Also, do you chart your temperature? Because that is really the only way to know when you ovulated and thus when you should expect your period/can reliably take a pregnancy test.
  • You can certainly test now, just be prepared to get a negative and keep testing each day until you get a positive or AF.

Also if you're going to test early, I'd suggest you use FRER.

  • I no longer test early. It's too heartbreaking.

  • The earlier you test, the better chance of getting a BFN. Which there is nothing wrong with testing early but be prepared to be disappointed. Most women here don't start testing until at least 10DPO, which you will only know if you are taking your BBT and charting daily.

how do you know your period is due Friday?  The only way to know is by temping (and then calculating your average LMP).

I think it all depends on you. Will it upset you to see a BFN? Because there's no reason to put yourself through that this early. The percentage chance of getting a Neg at this time will likely be higher then a Pos. There's a chart out there somewhere, I can't recall where at this time though....

I personally start testing around 9 dpo. The BFN makes me less anxious. I can't stand wondering, I hate surprises that I have to wait for. So it's in my best interest to test daily. Otherwise I'll just be a giant ball of nerves and I can't stand that.

  • I personally would wait from my most recent experience.  I had a crazy dream about CM on 8 DPO  and it made me POAS the next morning only to get a BFN.  I was bummed for the next few days and was going to wait to test again but AF showed before that could happen.

Are you temping? Your temp could be an indicator as well about what's going on.  my temp dropped significantly the AM AF showed up.  That does not happen for everyone like that, but that's what happened to me last cycle.
  • It depends on you. If bfns and the cost of hpts don't bother you, test away. If they do bother you then wait.

I'm the same way. I started off the first couple of months testing like crazy only to realize it was causing me a lot more anxiety. I've tested only once in the last 6 months.

I would wait until your period is due. My first cycle TTC I wanted to wait to test, but ended up testing early. At first, I didnt mind the negative tests, but then I wasted money on several tests trying to get a clear, bright line that never showed up. I understand being impatient, and wanting to POAS, but whether you test early or wait, the result will be the same. I'd rather see a no doubt about it line at 14 dpo, than be in limbo after a faint line any day. Trust me, it's torture. If you temp, your temperatures staying high can be a good and cheap indicator of a possible pregnancy. Don't buy tests or give them to your DH to hide.
  • so how many days PO are you?? that would be another thing.  if you are only 9 or 10 dpo, I'd def wait till maybe the day before AF is supposed to show, but not this soon.
  • I think it's just a matter of preference: if you are going to feel upset or beat down by a BFN try to hold off for a little longer. I try to keep myself as busy as possible to distract myself so I'm not as tempted to POAS but again it's whatever works for you!

    According to FF I'm 16dpo. I've tested.

I vote POAS if you want. :-??

  • I'm in the same boat as you. I'm 12DPO today. Was going to try to wait until 16DPO or until AF came but I think I'm going to test in the AM. I was feeling very hopeful this month but tonight I just started getting very AF cramps. Ugh.

You're not alone! There is nothing more disappointing.
  • Thanks everyone!!! This is my 1st month trying my other 2 children weren't planned so I'm still learning. I seen a lot of responses stating i should keep record of my temperature? I will google more so I'll know how and what to do. Your right maybe to save on my emotions maybe I should just wait. Last year I tested 5 days early and got a positive but a month later I miscarried which devestated me. I just probably wait.

Just to clarify it's your basal body temperature (BBT), which is different from your regular temperature and requires a special thermometer...
