75% effaced and worried

I'm 31 weeks and 3 days and today I got taken off work because I'm 75% effaced. My doctor didn't mention anything about dilation but just wondering if anyone is dealing with this or dealt with it previously! I just want baby to stay in as long as possible! Don't want a preemie!! Thanks

Re: 75% effaced and worried

  • I don't have any previous experience with this, just wanted to say good luck!

  • I'm dilated 1 cm ! But my dr said my cervix is still closed inside. Said its quite common for second and third pregnancies ...
  • I was a little further along with my son (34 weeks and 3 days) when they told me I was 75% effaced and a cm dilated. I took it really easy and my bosses let me do office work instead of going out and actually being a physical therapist and I didn't have my son until 37 weeks and 5 days. Just rest as much as you can and try(I know it's hard) not to worry too much since stress is bad for both you and baby.
  • I know people who were dilated or effaced for a month or more before going into labor. And I know of at least 3 who were dilated & still had to be induced!! So don't worry too much but definitely still take it easy and listen to your doc :)
  • I'm going to be 32 weeks in a couple of days and my next appt isn't until I'm almost 35 weeks so I'm wondering... Why haven't I been checked for dilation and such? :(
  • I was wondering this as well as typically the doctor does not do pelvic exams until 36 weeks here.
  • At my 27 week appointment, I was 50% effaced. I was put on strict bedrest. I haven't been the most compliant patient, but I've mostly been in bed the past 3 weeks. Yesterday at my 30-wk appointment, OB said no effacement. It comes and goes I guess. But I believe getting off your feet helps a lot. Effacement early in pregnancy may be aggravated/caused by gravitational forces. Your baby and your amniotic fluid are weighing on your cervix. So someone with any degree of cervical insufficiency might exhibit some effacement. Let's keep our babies in, let's keep them baking! We can do it Momma!
  • When do they check you for effacement? My doctor hasnt even mentioned it. Im 31 weeks :o
  • @EstrellaB @jenn2132 @babyvelasquez2015 The only reason my ob checked me was because I mentioned that my braxton hicks were becoming painful and I had some cramping. My job is very physical so she wanted to see if I needed to be taken off work. Which I did.
  • I'm 29 weeks and have been 80% effaced and 2 cm dilated since 27 weeks. (Twin pregnancy so they have been checking every apt) I am on strict bed rest and anxious to see if my body has progressed any further at the next apt. Like most of the people have said on here, people can be effaced and dilated for months before they go into labor... I would def try not to worry and listen to your doctor! We are keeping our fingers crossed we make it to 34 weeks. Best wishes to you!
