LO will not take a bottle HELP

my LO 9 weeks old is my second Breastfeed baby and is having problems taking a bottle. I have tried changing nipples 3 times but she isn't budging. She has taken a bottle 3 times since birth but still is rejecting it and pushing the nipple out with her tongue. I have even tried bumping and feeding it to her. I have tried not holding her and feeding her. My husband has tried as well. Nothing. I am nervous because I go back to work at the beginning of Sept. Anyone advice would be helpful thanks!

Re: LO will not take a bottle HELP

  • Maybe try syringe feeding or spoon feeding it might take longer but at least she will be fed. Then maybe if she gets use to that you can start with a bottle.

  • Try different brands of bottles. My son refused tommy tippee bottles for a month but took a dr. Browns the first try!
  • The Advent bottles are the only one that my son will take. I also found it helpful to lay him on his side a bit more so that he is in a position that is more similar to when he is nursing.
  • Spoon feeding and syringe feeding works until she will. You really need to get someone else to feed her a bottle, it's really common for babies not to take bottles from their mothers. Keep trying and make sure the nipples are slow flow.
  • My son is the same way. I have to go back to work in two weeks and it's frustrating. We use the Munchkin Latch bottles and he does better with that than any other we have tried. When he refuses it, I take a 5 min break. He usually eventually takes it. Also, a lactation consultant told me to point the nipple towards the roof of his mouth. That seems to help also.
