I'll be honest, I've heard of its benefits but it kinda grosses me out. So I'm not planning on doing it myself. I grew up on a farm and watched the animals eat their own placentas and I always assumed it was their natural instinct to clean up and not attract predators. I guess maybe it has health benefits for them too!
I've been considering it even though there are apparently no scientifically proven benefits to it. I thought I would try anything that would improve on my last baby experience so it couldn't hurt! I would do the TCM method as I am too squeamish to try it raw! Also it's steamed in the TCM method which would kill bacteria and whatnot.this post reminded me I have to actually book someone to do it though...
There was a thread about this a while ago but no one said whether they thought it helped or not - I'm following as I'm interested to hear from those who have tried it.
Haha, fair enough! I never thought I would be someone to consider it but I have friends that rave about placenta smoothies and since I don't think I could handle that, I am considering pills. Have heard they can really help with milk supply and postpartum "stuff."
I did the tcm with my son last time and I do believe It made a big difference in my recovery. No baby blues or depression my milk was in and lots of it and I felt great!
I am doing this time as well I highly recommend doing it.
Ive thought about it, but frankly dont want to pay someone to do it and Im not sure I have the stomach to do it myself. Ive heard a lot of people who say it helped immensly with post partum depression and some people freeze the capsules for when they hit menopause. Honestly though I cant think of anyone who said they did it and not fept some sort of difference while taking it. Who knows if it was actual or imagined, but if it makes people feel better then does it matter if it was in their head?
I have not done it before, but my doula does encapsulation and going to give it a whirl this time! My cousin has done it and says it helps. We shall see! Hoping to find out soon...
I was really considering it, but I've basically decided not to, mainly because I kept putting it off and now I'm so close to my due date that I doubt I could find someone to do it this quickly. The benefits sound amazing, and DH wasn't even weirded out that I was considering it. I am quite grossed out by the thought of digesting it, though.

All you have to do is email or call someone who does it they will more then likely take you on. I found someone last time 1.5 weeks before my due date. It's never too late, you can take the plecentia home and freez it too until you find someone to do it.
I had my baby boy August 6 and started taking my pills on the 9th. I take 2 pills 3x a day. I did still get baby blues pretty badly. And I find I get overwhelmed when people are over to visit. I think that's just normal for me to feel. Hopefully the pills kick in soon..!

Do you know which method was used to encapsulate (raw or TCM)?

Thanks! I just assumed I needed to plan better, but I never thought of freezing it until I find someone. Maybe I'll look closer today since I don't have much going on at work.
I haven't and I wouldn't. The placenta absorbs toxins and things like Mercury to protect the baby, so eating it myself and then giving it back to baby in the form of breastmilk doesn't seem worth it to me, especially because there are no proven benefits but plenty of proven risks.
There is no scientific research that validates any claim that consuming your placenta helps with anything. And your placenta acts like a liver where it filters out toxins and then I'm going to willingly consume it? No thank you.
