Went to the ER, any other experiences?

I occasionally get indigestion since I've been pregnant (1st) but today was unlike any pain I've ever had. It came on gradually and I thought I just needed some antacid. It got progressively worse until I was laying on the ground at work, writhing in pain! I went to the hospital and everything came back normal except my WBC count was pretty high. They said it's probably round ligament pain and gave me a Rx. Is it typical that this pain can involve my whole abdomen, make me vomit, and last all day at a level 7-9 pain?

Re: Went to the ER, any other experiences?

  • That does not sound typical of round ligament pain to me. It is usually at the sides of the lower abdomen/pelvis in response to sudden movement and resolves pretty quickly. If I were you, I'd follow up with the OB.

  • Sounds really painful, sorry you are experiencing such terrible pain! I personally don't know if your symptoms are normal or not for round ligament pain. What did the er give you for a prescription? I would call your ob first thing in the morning and explain to them what's going on and that you went to the er! Hope the rx they gave you helps so you can sleep tonight. Please keep us updated.

Thank you! They called my OB over and he's the one who gave me the diagnosis and prescribed Percocet and Motrin, so I don't know.
  • @stacetera I'm so sorry you're in such terrible pain! I would definitely call your OB, that sounds to me a little bit like your concerns are being dismissed. I am NOT a doctor, but I would for sure get a second opinion. I hope you feel better!

  • Hope you feel better!! And your OB prescribed you Percocet? Not a doctor or anything but I don't think you should be taking that it's the same medication that was prescribed to me after I had my c-section with my first pregnancy and it had me on ☁ 9.
  • I'm so sorry that you're in such awful pain!

^this and Motrin? Isn't that kind of in the same field as ibuprofen?

Motrin is a brand name for ibuprofen, the same as advil.
  • Could it be gallbladder pain? This is common during pregnancy and postpartum. I dealt with it after the birth of my first baby, it was terrible. Luckily was able to control it with diet, but I'll definitely be extremely careful this time.

  • Round ligament pain does not cause an elevated wbc count. Did they do an abdominal ultrasound or ct scan?

  • Kidney infection or bladder ?! Wbc would be a result of that . I heard some girl couldn't get a positive test until they took the urine straight from her kidney/bladder
  • Also please don't take ibuprofen unless your doctor said it was ok! Mine says it's not but everyone's doctor has different oks or no's to things it seems
  • If I don't take the Motrin/ibuprofen, it's a 7/10 pain everywhere and feels like gas pains. :( They did a US of my gallbladder, kidneys, appendix, did urine and blood tests but all looked fine. I thought it might've been constipation with a lot of fiber all at once but after a good BM a few mins ago, I'm still really freakin sore esp on the right side by my uterus. I'm waiting till the last dose wears off so I can see how I feel now. Do you think it could've been that and it strained my ligaments??

Did you do anything strenuous or out of the norm? I know that if I walk too fast while exercising I get ligament pain. Have you been drinking enough water? Hope your pain goes away soon! Definitely contact your doctor if you feel worse.

  • No, it seriously came on slowly, and just got worse and worse. I had a similar experience a month ago and I just went home, had some ginger tea, passed gas and was fine. But this time it only got worse and I have this lingering ache on the right side. Like it hurts to lift my right leg or get up from lying/sitting positions. But if I'm still, it's okay.

That's what I thought. I've been told to avoid it. :(

Oh goodness. I hope lots of rest and water helps.
    I'm so sorry.

My OB allows it between 20 and 32 weeks. Since I'm allergic to Tylenol it's my best option right now for pain. It's very much a risk versus benefit situation.
  • Sounds miserable...hopefully it'll pass soon, whatever it is. Personally, my RLP has never been that bad and doesn't last long. Usually by shifting position it goes away.
And I question the Motrin as well...I was always told ibuprofen/Advil was a no-no but Tylenol/acetaminophen were OK.
  • My understanding is ibuprofen is generally a category c medication. There isn't a lot of research to support whether or not it's safe or what the risks may be. However it's concidered category D during late pregnancy. Like anything it should be discussed with your doctor who will concider the potential risks versus benefits along with individual history.
