delivery worries

Hi there i am 20+5 weeks with girl/boy twins. I have been thinking about delivery since I found out I was having twins. Can't decide whether to go natural or c-section. I know I've got a while to go yet but it's playing on my mind. What are everyone's thoughts?

    Hey @vickygregory62, maybe you should discuss this with your OB. Your OB can look over your charts and know you, so they can advise you on what they think is best for you based on your records and history. Also, I think there is a specialty board for moms of twins or multiples. Maybe ask questions there. Hope that helps :)

    Personally I would try to go natural. I'm a FTM, but I've heard the recovery for a c-section can be much harder, and at the very least longer, and with two babies I think you'll want as much strength/energy as possible after delivery and not want the longer recovery. But my general opinion is to avoid an unnecessary c-section when possible due to recovery, stitches, and scarring. But in the end, you need to do whatever is best for you and babies!

    I agree with PP, you should take to your OB.
    I'm expecting twins as well and as it was explained to me, delivery all depends on how the baby A, closest to the cervix, is sitting. If they are head down and everything looks good, they would let me attempt vaginal delivery for both. If baby A is any other position, it straight to C-section. I've also been told to expect to deliver within an operating room, just in case baby A comes out fine vaginally but baby B has problems. But this is just how my doctor's office does it. I will also not be allowed to go past about 38 weeks.
    But definitely, start making a list of questions for your next OB appt. I find its easier to have a list when I go on because I can get distracted by seeing the babies and lose mental list.

    Natural. It's best for mom and babies in most cases. Most women deliver multiples just fine vaginally fine. I had a c-section with my first and hated it. I didn't get to touch my baby for over an hour and was in intense pain for weeks. I'm doing a vbac at home this time.

    Good for you mama! I home birth as well, this will be my 2nd.

    OP, I think a lot depends on your care provider and positioning of babies. Is your OB willing to let you try to deliver vaginally? If it's something you are wanting then make sure your OB has the stats to back it up and isn't just telling you that you can try.

    I agree with talking to your OB. Ultimately you should do whatever he/she recommends is the safest option for you and babies.

    Like any singleton delivery - they're not going to just casually ask you what you want with no information given. They're going to tell you the risks of both and help you assess which is best for you and your babies given your circumstances.

    After speaking to your OB and if safe to do so if go natural all the way, much better recovery which you will need with two bubbas. Just do whatever is safer for the babies and yourself

    My sister just had iden twin girls and she had them vaginally. They were both head down and yes, they do it in the operating room. There's also the chance that once when baby A comes out that baby B could be like wahoo there's lotsa room in here and flip around. The doctor went (TMI) elbow deep and physically kept the baby from flipping! But everything went well! No issues!

So I'll say don't get your hopes up on delivering natural it's up to the babies and their position because Baby A can be delivered vaginally but Baby B can switch positions and you'll end up having a c-section for it or you could end up in the same situation I had with my first set of twins. Tbh my c-section wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I think I'd rather have a c-section than to have my babies splitting me or getting stuck in the middle of me pushing them out but hey everyone have their opinion and preference and everyone have different tolerance for pain.     Not sure you will decide this for yourself.  Your OB and probably more than just one will be there for the birth and before will likely have an opinion on what is the safest option once they know how the babies are doing and the position they are in?  I would imagine they do more than just the typical anatomy scans with twins?  We have two sets of twins in our families and one set was born natural (with some manual help of forceps - sounded terrible to me but it was a long time ago) and the other c section.  Your doctor is the best guide but also read up on the topic so you know options. Doctors all have their own bias and you should know what your preference is going in if it can be taken into consideration.  Just remember any birth method is ok as long as you and babies are safe.
