Put weight on my thighs and calves

Is this normal to put weight on thighs and calves? It's all squidgy and flabby I hate it. Is this water retention or fat?

Re: Put weight on my thighs and calves

  • It's both. Totally normal.

Water retention is when you can see indentations when you push on the skin and it takes a min to go away. But yes I believe this is normal. Everyone gains weight differently. I too have gained in my thighs and calves. If your experiencing water retention you need to inform your doctor it can mean serious problems like preeclampsia.
  • yes, unfortunately.  At this point though I'm not stressing about my weight.  I'm eating healthy for the most part and doing yoga 3 times a week.  Once I recover from delivery, I will be going on a diet and losing the weight.  I'm enjoying the fullness of my face butt boobs and stomach because I know it will be gone soon enough and I will not be pregnant forever~ Embrace your voluptious self!

  • Yes, this is why I went and purchased new pajama pants today. My goal was no more maternity purchases...
  • My butt is covered in stretch marks!! I haven't gained a ton of weight either, but it seems a portion of it is on my butt and thighs. Some of it is water (I'm very bloated) and some is just plain ol' fat. I was hoping to be one of those moms that only gains in the belly, but my genetics had other plans for me... c'est la vie :)
  • It's completely normal. You'll lose a lot of water weight the first few weeks postpartum, but some of that is fat your body stores to support breastfeeding.

And sometimes your body changes and your thighs and calves may be fuller forever, however, that doesn't mean you can't get in fabulous shape again. But right now, your body is primed to store fat and water to support your growing baby and your hormones are making your ligaments softer. Try not to worry about it too much!

  • Water weight won't always mean that you'll notably have indentations that take awhile to go away, but that could be a sign of a significant amount of water retention. Even minor water retention in your body's fat cells will make areas increase in size, from thighs to arms to face, and it's very normal right now. You may find that cellulite you've never seen before makes an ugly appearance, too, but it's not much to worry about. Your body is all about supporting that growing life right now, and it'll change in composition more than many of us like, but that doesn't mean we aren't happy about supporting our LO's growth! It just means we're human :) You aren't alone!

  • All the weight I gained went to my butt, thighs and calfs too! my belly is still tiny.
  • Haha @lindsay897 that's great! I hope it's true, because pregnancy has only added to my ample butt!
