Breast Pumps Through Insurance

Hi Ladies - Has anyone tried to get a free breast bump through their insurance yet?  What is the process?  I just saw an ad for Aeroflow (you send them you information and they contact your insurance for you and set everything up).  Has anyone used this?  Thanks!

Re: Breast Pumps Through Insurance

  • I received mine a few weeks ago! I can't remember which site I used but it was posted in a previous thread. I filled out the info online, picked which pump I wanted and it was at my door in about 3 days!

  • I'm going to be a FTM (God willing) and from what I read from my insurance, you need a prescription first. I don't know if that works for everyone. Have you contacted Aeroflow? They may be able to better explain the process to you step by step.

  • Every insurance is different. My insurance will only cover it after the baby is born, and you actually get a script at the hospital and the hospital has them in stock for you to take home with you.
  • Call your insurance to find out. I need a prescription for one and I have to get it through DME stores from a list they provide.
  • Thanks, all!
  • I call my insurance after 28 weeks and they send one to me. I believe they have to get an authorization from my Ob, but seems like a simple process. They said it arrives within 10 days.

Another great site is www.yummymummystore.com ... you put in your insurance company and they filter to list all the ones that you're covered for. You can order directly from the website. Then 60 days before your due date they check with your insurance to make sure you're covered (in case things have changed) and it gets delivered no later than 30 days before your due date.

ETA: Your insurance company has to have been notified of your pregnancy and have that on file in order for this company to fulfill the order (I think that works like a prescription). You can get more info on how it works on their website.
  • My insurance will cover  and send pump to me 3 days after baby is delivered.
  • As others have noted, all depends on your insurance. I simply went to my insurance page and logged in. Searched breast pumps and went to one of the sites they suggested. This was a week ago. The company I used confirmed that I am in fact pregnant with my OB, and the pump arrives tomorrow.
  • You need to call your insurance company as each plan is different. I called and they gave me 2 companies I could go through to get the pump ( If I use any other opton I have to pay for it up front, and wait for them to pay me back). There are several pump options, but the earliest insurance will cover it is 30 days prior to my DD.

  • My insurance told me that it's all organized through my OB's office.

It was super easy for me. I called my insurance (BCBS), gave them my account # and my due date, and they sent it to me the same week.

  • Call your insurance company and they will tell you what to do.  I called mine today and they said I have to get it through a certain provider and gave me their number and all the info I needed to order.  I called them and they are sending the one I picked out to another company to have delivered.
  • I have Aetna and I just have to bring my insurance card to a medical supply place listed on their website and pick out a breast pump they pay for it in full right there no reimbursement which is awesome! I also found out they will pay for a new breast pump every 3 years which is nice to know.
  • I went on Edgepark.com and they walk you through the whole process, super easy n fast. I requested my pump on Saturday, and got it on Tuesday. They get the Rx from your OB and all
  • I called my insurance since their website didn't give me any specifics. They cover BPs through Byram Healthcare. That website was easy to use, had about five options and took about 3 weeks to get approval/deliver. My Medala Pump in Style didn't come with ALL of the accessories you'd find on the store websites though (no tote/ice packs/etc.)
  • Usually the information about if/how you get a pump is spelled out in the maternity care section of your insurance benefits booklet.  As long as you know what insurance company and plan you have, you can find the brochure online.  For mine, I have a telephone number to call and they will automatically send me either a manual or double electric pump.  And I can request refill bags every 90 days.

It's good to look at this information too because it should lay out whether you have coverage for a lactation consultant outside the hospital and other maternity and birth-related issues.

  • Go to medela website, in the "insurance" tab it asks you to pick your plan and the state you live in and it gives you the stores and the pump types that are supported, phone numbers etc.
  • I just called my insurance company. All I have to do is order it on an approved site like yummymummystore.com and they'll get a bill for it. I can also order it whenever I want so I might end up doing it sometime this weekend!
  • Also be prepared, the company I work for has a grandfathered plan, so they aren't covered at all. Bummer. I'm thinking I'll just go with a manual since I don't know how long I'll be staying at home before getting a part time job (at least three months).

  • I actually emailed my insurance through their online portal and they emailed me their process, along with links to some recommended DME stores. I was able to order online and should receive within 10 days. I'm currently 24 weeks and it was already approved.
  • You just have to call and see if they cover one. Mine covers a specific modela pump up to a certain dollar amount; however you have to get it from a medical supply place. They'll cover a more expensive one if I upgrade; I just pay the difference.
  • I just called my insurance and they gave me all of the information I needed. Mine is covered and I heard good reviews about it.
  • I knew I wanted the Medela Pump in Style so I went to the Medela website this week instead of yummymummy. I put in my insurance information, it showed the one that I qualified for, and I was able to order it. They required my due date as well as my OB's ID number that they had in their system. Because they had it in their system along with the insurance info I supplied, they were able to approve it right away. It shipped that night. It should be here by the end of the week.

I also had the option of additional supplies, a bag/carrier, etc, etc, as a reduced price.

    Super easy process through them!
  • It depends on your insurance. Got mine two months ago because my insurance company allowed it. Picked out the Medela Pump in Style and all that I registered for were the accessories. All I had to do was sign a form and send it back. Depending on your provider, you may not be able to get it until closer to your due date or after.

  • I called my insurance company.  They gave me to medical supply companies to call- Edgepark and Byram Healthcare.

I went online to Edgepark.  I entered me insurance info and picked a Medela PISA from about 8 other ones.  It came in 3 days! It was easy and painless!
