I had an interview last week and was honest with them that I will be wanting 16-18 weeks off early next year after I give birth. I told them I would prefer to be up front about my availability. I got invited back for a second interview this week so I'm thinking something worked in my favour.
I had an interview Friday haven't told anyone I'm pregnant gonna tell my manager on training day seeing as to our shirts need to be tucked and worn with a belt also which I can't do because I'm wearing maternity pants lol that would look awkward. But I'd say don't say anything at the interview I waited to get all the way in the door because I don't want them to try to not hire me because of it. I wore a loose fitting shirt to my interview as well my bump is very noticeable.
Cliche' it may be, but honesty is the best policy. Yes it may hinder you from actually being hired, but it would be better then pissing off your new boss because you'll have to tell them sooner the later anyway. Legally they can't fire you, but they can find another reason to let you go. Or maybe they'll love you from the beginning and it won't matter. I apologize if I come off as a pessimist. One of my many faults, I'm just being realistic. Good luck!
I would be honest if I was you. I hate awkward situations, and would dread having to go in and tell them after being hired! And they would definitely think more of you if you was honest from the start. Xx
You don't have to tell them, but I would. If they don't hire you, it means they're not family friendly IMO. I wouldn't want to work somewhere that isn't. You may be surprised! My sister was hired when she was 6 months pregnant and told them she'd be taking at least 9 weeks. The executive director not only hired her, he encouraged her to take the full 12 weeks off!

Wait, you asked for 4&1/2 months off? Is that something employers will grant? Are you in the US?

I'm in Australia, we currently get up to 18 weeks paid maternity leave on minimum wage from the government. Most women I know have taken 6-12 months off between paid and unpaid leave.
Just an FYI, I followed some of the other girls advice here on the board (and my own gut feeling) during my phone interview last week Friday. After they told me they felt comfortable moving forward without even requiring me to come to have an in person interview (out of state job interview) I felt comfortable disclosing my pregnancy and my need for probably 8 weeks of unpaid leave. I especially wanted to disclose because this minion may be born while I'm still in my 90 day probation period and really don't want to risk losing the job. They were very understanding and appreciative of my honesty and I got a job offer this afternoon! I just wanted to thank @claireloSC for sharing ur experience and advice before! So happy to have gotten this dream job especially while pregnant!
Honesty is so key. If the situation were reversed and you were doing the hiring wouldn't you want to know? I would have way more respect for a potential employee who was honest, as opposed to one who was hired and then told me they were pregnant. It wouldn't be a great way to start out a new job in my opinion. Especially since you're due in January and won't be able to hide it for much longer. Best if luck!!
Re: Job Interview Tuesday
Also there were tons of threads about interviews not that long ago that had lots of good advice.
