Heparin shots

does anyone else need to do heparin shots? I have factor 5 and have to do them for 6 weeks after delivery just as a precaution. Where do you give them? We were told in the hospital to do in between incision and belly button but I'm getting so bruised in that area and I still have almost 4 weeks left. The other problem is my left side is still sore from section and when I have to do that side it actually hurts - I get tears in my eyes. Guess I'm just wondering if this is normal and/or anyone else experiencing this.

Re: Heparin shots

  • As a nurse - Typically belly is where the shot goes but it can go in your thigh or subcutaneous tissue! Rotate the spots to help! Hope this helps

  • I'm on Lovenox shots for Factor V and Lupus Anticoagulant, but only until 2 weeks post partum. I did Heparin for my last two weeks before delivery, it really is difficult to find enough places on your belly to inject! I also teared up with pretty much every injection, I found Heparin to be quite painful (this may be because of the crappy syringes they gave me though).

Anyway, I unfortunately don't have advice but I would call your doctor to ask about trying the thigh as PP suggested.
