Intro and Bleeding Question

hey ladies! I'm pregnant with my first (and first ever pregnancy), I'm 28 and live in CT with my husband and our pup.

I'm 5 weeks and today I got some spotting. Some was fresh blood. The nurse I spoke with said its kind of normal, but I'm freaking out. Anyone else have any issue with this?

Re: Intro and Bleeding Question

  • Welcome and Congrats !
It actually can be quite normal ! I had it happen with little #2 ! I'm on last but not least number 3. Lol. I say as long as you are not severely cramping and bleeding heavily that you are a okay ! Keep us updated :)

Congrats. I've had spotting with all three of my previous pregnancies, so I think some spotting can be normal. I'd say if it picks up to a heavier flow to definitely call your dr.
  • While it is normal, don't let people talk you out of getting it checked out. I got a ton of "nothing to worry about!" "it's totally normal" "you're fine!".  But I insisted on a sonogram. Turns out it was an ectopic.

So while, yes, it is normal, make sure to advocate for yourself if you feel like something is wrong.
  • I had spotting for 6 days with my first, and I am on day 4 of spotting with this one. The timing (for me) has indicated implantation bleeding. Some bleeding throughout a pregnancy is often considered normal, but never hesitate to call or see your OB if ever uncertain.
  • The truth is, sometimes it's normal and sometimes it isn't.  One thing you can do is hold off on sex for a couple of days and give yourself some pelvic rest.  I spotted with one of my pregnancies and it was a miscarriage and spotted with another and I have an 11mo old....its hard to tell without the ultrasound.  If youre cramping AND bleeding, I would have your doc draw hcg bloodwork or order an ultrasound for when youre 6+ weeks.
  • Good luck... Hope it's just a little routine spotting! I did have some with my son around 8 or 9 weeks and it scared me but he was fine. It was just a little though. Trust your instincts and get checked out if it gets any heavier. Fingers crossed!

  • Thanks everyone for your input. The bleeding got worse, so I went to the doctor this morning and it looks like I'm having a miscarriage.
  • I'm so sorry to hear that. Thoughts and prayers to you and your SO.

Wishing all you lovely ladies wonderful bumps to come! Hopefully I'll be joining the June or July 2016 boards in a few months.
