freaking out!!!!

So my EDD is today. Don't see it happening anytime really soon, which I'm thankful for due to this horrendous cold I've gotten. Hoping for a few more days to recover as I currently have no voice and can't breathe.

But my main fear is my husband catching this bug from me in a few days... Will that affect anything as far as him being able to be in contact with our baby? I know it's probably a dumb question but I'm a FTM and it breaks my heart to think he wouldn't be able to hold our baby right away. In fact I'm crying just thinking about it. Hormones...

Re: freaking out!!!!

  • I'd have him take some Airbonne or EmergenC just in case. Good luck n hope u feel better before LO arrives!

  • Hopefully your husband won't catch it since his immune system is stronger than yours since yours is weakened and more susceptible due to being pregnant. If he does happen to catch it, he can always wear a mask around LO.
  • Thanks. I told him to get some zicam too if he starts to feel bad. Thankfully he's usually very healthy. My poor immune system is shot. I've been very sick three times at least during my pregnancy. I'm so ready to feel better so I can enjoy my baby! Feeling pretty down today. Thanks again ladies!
  • DH and I both came down with a bug one after another when DS was about 2 weeks old and we both just wore the surgical type masks and DS never got it.
  • yeah, a mask, and lots of hand washing should make things okay, Unless its a really bad virus then you may have to have him kicked out!  Ask your Doc though, they will reassure you more than we can.

  • I know how u feel! Last night before bed my boyfriend noticed some spots on his skin. He thought it could be poison ivy! I'm praying that he just got bug bites. It will break my hear if my BF won't be able to hold our son when he's first born!
  • I have a call into my drs office, I'll let y'all know what they say. Hoping they call back soon. I'm probably worried for nothing, my husband still feels fine but I'd like to know what to expect.

Could he just wear long sleeves and gloves? I think poison ivy only spreads through direct contact. I know you can get it if a pet gets in the plant and then you pet them, but that's the oils from the actual plant.
  • My brother in law had strep throat the day his daughter was born, he just wore a mask all the time and washed his hands constantly.  Hope you feel better and little one holds off a few days for you!
  • They called. They said worst case scenario is he'll have to wear a mask. That made me feel better. Thanks again for the input, ladies. I'm just going to keep resting and keep drinking lots of water. Wish I had the energy to nest... my house isn't clean like I'd like, but oh well!!
  • My whole house just got sick. 2 more weeks til due date. I'm thankful baby hasn't come early now.
But, if he does get sick just have him wear a mask and wash hands as pp suggested. If you nurse baby too they'll get your immunities.
  • If you are nursing, you should already have the antibodies in your system to help your LO fight the illness. We never stressed about illness from DH or I - only from outsiders - because I was nursing and obviously DH and I share germs. I think DD had a cold at 2 weeks. She was fine.
