Horrible Headache

I really haven't had too many headaches in my life- so I do struggle with the pain probably more than most.  My headache started about 15 hours ago and with Tylenol I've had zero relief.  I feel sick to my stomach because it hurts so bad and I'm miserable.  It's behind my eyes, back of head and temples.  The pain just pulses if I move too quickly.  Any remedies or any help at all would be so helpful.  I'll be calling my chiropractor Monday but that's 2 days away- I can't imagine going until then this miserable.

Re: Horrible Headache

  • The only suggestion I have I don't if it will help if it's this bad. I use peppermint oil on my temples, back of my neck, and under my nose when I feel a headache coming on.

  • Oh no. Hope you feel better soon. I suffer from migraines and the only non medicated remedy that helps for me is ice. Lots and lots of ice. The Chiro should help too. Can you find one that's open weekends just for this visit?
  • I have awful migraines and I alternate ice & heat. I also sip on an ice cold coke bc the caffeine helps. I even wear sunglasses in my house sometimes if it's really bad. Smelling peppermint oil helps a bit, also mix it with a carrier oil (like coconut) and you can put it on your temples, neck, etc like PP suggested. I hope you get some relief soon!
  • KT - Most of the time a headache means you are dehydrated. I was getting them really bad the week of my BFP. I reduced my coffee and made sure to drink LOTS of water. Makes a huge difference!

  • I had one of those earlier this week, too! I've had migraines my whole life and a trick that's always helped me is a dark, hot shower. I'll just sit in the floor and let the water hit by back and neck. I got relief this week by visiting my chiropractor, too. He did his duty and it was gone within the hour! Wished I'd had him at 4am that day!
  • I know this sounds funny but after my last pregnancy (mmc) I had to get glasses. I was having terrible headaches everyday. Nothing would help them. The eye dr said it could of been caused from the hormones. I've been wearing them since April and no headaches. If that's not the cause of your headaches my OB also prescribed magnesium oxide. It has also helped a lot!
  • Thanks ladies!  I was unable to get on and check this until now.  It lasted 36 hours- and I couldn't get out of bed the entire time.   I alternated ice/heat/peppermint oil.  I saw my chiro this morning and he gave me his cell to call him next time (so nice).  On top of that DD came down with the flu (puking for 12 hours)- needless to say we both spent the entire weekend in bed.  I still have sore eyes but the rest of the headache is gone!!!  My OB appt is tomorrow so I'll talk to him about it.  Thanks again for all of your advice.

  • Glad your headache is gone. Take magnesium supplements! I swear by them for pregnancy migraines!
  • Yes! I had a HORRIBLE headache for two days, which I never had with my son. Luckily it's better now. Tylenol helped me a little. Also resting in a dark room. And this might sound weird, but light exercise also helped somewhat. Like you my eyes and temples really hurt and my head throbbed, especially when I coughed or bent down. Hopefully yours will be as short lived as mine. Feel better!
