Breast feeding and increased appetite

well, I'm exclusively pumping every time my baby eats. I def feel like I have an increase in appetite, and I read that is normal, but I just wish my husband would believe me when I tell him is normal. He's constantly calling me a pig for eating a lot, especially since I still have 8 lbs to loose to get back to my pre pregnancy weight (I'm 4 weeks pp). It's to he point where I purposely don't eat around him bc his nagging makes me feel awful. Sigh. Just a rant. Anyone else experiencing increased appetite? Or a husband who doesn't understand it?

Re: Breast feeding and increased appetite

  • I'm the opposite. EBF and I have NO appetite. My husband actually calls on his lunch break to make sure I ate something because I literally forget to eat. I just don't feel hungry. On the other hand, I'm constantly thirsty. I keep two water bottles on my bedside table at all times and I down at least one every time I nurse. It's nutty.

Anyway, can you show him any articles proving your point and explain to him how crappy it makes you feel that he is constantly on you about something you have no control over? You can't exactly starve yourself. You're still feeding yourself AND baby. As long as you are making healthy dietary choices there's no need for him to nag.

  • Of course it's normal and needed. If you don't eat enough, your supply could be affected too. Men just don't get it.

  • Totally normal. This morning I got lightheaded because I wasn't eating enough. I feel like a hobbit--there's first and second breakfast, then snack, first and second lunch, then snack, etc. DH actually set up a snack corner for me on the table next to my spot on the couch so I have snacks within reach when I'm feeding baby. It's just granola bars and crackers but it keeps me going.
  • I'm hungry all the time!
