M.O.T.N.

Its the middle of the night...

Where are you?
What are you doing?

I am in San Jose California and I have been trying for hours to sooth my fussy baby. Nothing is working. Fed, changed, burped, rock and play, swing, snuggles. It's hubby's birthday and his family is coming over for dinner tonight. I am starting to think maybe that wasn't a good idea to plan since I am going to be a zombie this evening.

Re: M.O.T.N.

  • It's 5:45 here in Boston. We got up at 3:30 for a feeding and now she's up again. Sitting in the rocking chair trying to extend her feeding timeline a bit longer. We just read "Annie and the Wild Animals" and she is asleep again... for now.

@Handree have you looked into the "Happiest Baby on the Block" method of soothing? It's super effective with our gal. The "Five S's" are used to calm baby: Shush, Side, Swaddle, Suck, and Sway.

I've been up for the last hour and a half
I got up to change my LO and some how pinched a nerve bewteen my shoulder blades in the process.

I had LO asleep on me so I wouldn't have to get up and get him. He just woke up and is nursing now.

He is also a tiny heater and I'm burning.
  • New Jersey here. She got up at 2 and fought sleep until finally passing out at 4:30. She just woke up at 5:50 and I freaked thinking DH was late for work only to discover he's gone and I didn't wake up at all when he was getting ready. Hoping she'll go back down for a few hours after this feeding.
  • 4am here feeding again...last feed was at 1:10, then it took a while to get him back to sleep but I did. (Every little bit counts) Big loud rain & thunder storm finally stopped

Pumping session going down! Catching up on the bump! ;)
Oh... Annoyed that the lactation consultant that was going to do a home visit now can't... But she'll be sending me names & contact info of others in the area. I'm finally ready to bring LO back to the boob!

  • Portland here. 5am feeding.
Just started feeding after DH changed her. She was squirmy and grunting and I warned him she was probably going to poop. Sure enough, just as she finished on the first boob let out a 3-4 second fart/poop combo. Needless to say, DH got up and changed her again and we are on the other boob now. Hopefully she goes back to sleep after this!

Are you actually in Boston or a suburb of? I'm in MA too :)

  • My husband caught me rocking the baby and crying quietly one night last week. I was exhausted and he had been awake every hour on the hour. My husband came home from work and said, "I have a plan for his sleep routine!".....that night we breastfed, changed his diaper, then offered an additional ounce of formula (this is the only time he gets formula)....we then double swaddled him-- our hospital used two of the big receiving blankets to swaddle-- which really wrapped him tight. We rocked him and put him in the rock and play (our motor went out and we are waiting for a new part to come in!). For the past FOUR NIGHTS he has slept a solid 8 hours (he's a month old today)....I have only woken up around 5:00 to pump. I hope this sticks for awhile- I even had energy to go to the gym. Maybe our routine might give you some ideas?? Don't know if that's what helped or if he went through a growth spurt?? I'm not complaining though!
  • @rachiec773 Technically we live in Malden, just outside of Boston, but hubby and I both work in the city.
  • Oh awesome! We are in Hudson, just outside Worcester :)
  • I was up half the night with a fussy baby, too. Normally he's a good sleeper but not so much last night. Hoping tonight is better for all of us!

  • Almost 3am in Phoenix. Usually my husband gets up to give a bottle while I pumped but tonight he was mad my mom stopped by today so he refused. I want to strangle him. So I nursed from 1:30-2:15 then laid in bed realizing that since baby only took the right boob, the left one will be jacked up if I don't pump. So here I am, probably will be up in another hour again. Where'd everyone else go?
  • It's 4 am here in Vancouver. It seemed like my little one was becoming more efficient at his first middle of the night feeding finishing up after half an hour (rather than an hour or an hour and a half). Wishful thinking - he only slept an hour between feedings. So sleepy. Have visitors coming in the morning and am starting to feel like I need to stop having visitors so I can try and sleep more when the baby does!
