I'm a glutton for punishment...

Hi,
I wanted to introduce myself. I posted on this board a few times when I was pregnant with #2. My first two are 15 months apart. They are now almost 5 and 3.5. I also have a 14 month old daughter, and we just found out I am pregnant with number four. We always planned on four, but thought we would have a slightly bigger age gap. I'm not so much worried about the age gap, as I am on how people are going to react to being pregnant with our fourth. Any experience you could share would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to getting to know you better.

  • We want 4. Family thinks we are crazy for having 3 so I am sure they will be less than thrilled about a 4th. I wouldn't worry about what other people think. They will come around eventually. I would prefer mine close together because I want to get all the night feedings and diapers over with so we can travel in the future and I like having my kids interested in the same things.

  • First of all, Congratulations! My first was 4-1/2 when my 4th was born. Reactions universally were "Whoa! You REALLY have your hands full!" If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, I would be a rich woman. I never got any of the nasty comments like "Haven't you figured out how to stop that from happening?" that I have heard other moms get, but we live in a fairly pro-life community.

After the first 4, our babies came much further apart and we are now expecting #7. I get congratulations from people who also have or had a lot of kids and a general "Wow, 7?!" response from everyone else. I love the old ladies who come up and tell me their stories of growing up in a big family or raising many children & tell me to keep it up. What really pulls at my heart strings are older moms who say, "I wish we would/could have had more."

I hope the positive comments outweigh the negative ones for you!
  • Thank you @thisblessedmess. We have always told people we wanted four, and I know I shouldn't care what people think, but it's hard. Congratulations to you on expecting number 7, that is wonderful!!!
