40 weeks and only 1cm dilated

Hi I'm 40 weeks and only 1cm dilated any advice on how to I could speed up the process.

Re: 40 weeks and only 1cm dilated

  • Baby will honestly come when he/she is ready. I tried many things with all 3 of my children and nothing. But you can try bouncing on a yoga ball, intercourse, walking a lot, going up and down stairs etc. These are just some things my last ob told me to try. With my last ob I also had a membrane sweep and that didn't work for me personally. All my babies came past their EDD.

  • Being dilated 1 cm has nothing to do with when you'll go in labor or how long it'll take !
  • Thanks hun for your advice will Def try them
  • With my first, I tried everything under the sun to "induce labor". I ended up going 4 days past my due date. Baby 100% comes out when they're ready. Also keep in mind, your due date is just an estimated guess for when baby will be here. Not a deadline. And it's even possible for your due date to be off by up to 2 weeks. They'll be here soon enough!!

You can't. Your body will just do it in your own time. The first time around, my water broke at 40 weeks 1 day and I was only 1/2cm dilated.

Yup. I wasn't dilated at all at my dr appt at 39+3 but went into labor naturally at 39+6. Your body will go into labor when it's ready. You don't have to be dilated ahead of time.
  • Means absolutely nothing. I walked into labor & delivery both times at 6cm.
