Hi ladies,

So I plan to return to work end if September and an exclusively breastfeeding. I've been researching breast pumps and am debating between the medela freestyle pump and the medela instyle advanced with car adapter. I've read that the freestyle pump has less suction and the replacement parts can be expensive. The medela instyle advanced appears to be better quality and last longer but I'm not sure how well the car adapter works? I travel almost exclusively for work so will be doing the majority if my pumping in the car. I'll also need to figure out a way to store the breatmilk in the car for up to 7-8 hours at a time.

Re: Breastpump for Car

  • The medea freestyle advance comes with the car adaptor and a cooler with the upgrade package. I have the pump with upgrade it works well, but I can't say I've used the car adaptor yet. The cooler has four bottles with lids and a nice ice pack too. The instructions say you can keep the breastmilk in the cooler for 10-12 hours as long as the ice pack is frozen solid. I think it would work for you. The cooler is small enough that we throw it in the diaper bag. We use it pretty frequently and haven't had any issues with the bottle being warm. We typically use it at night so we don't have to run downstairs if we need a bottle.

  • I have the Medela PISA. Although I am not back at work yet, I have used the car power adapter once. It worked fine, I didn't notice a difference between using it and the wall charger. You also have the battery pack if needed too.
  • A friend of mine has the pump in style advanced and she has the battery pack for it. She can use it in the car or wherever! She likes it.
  • I have the modela pump in style and used it yesterday in the car. I just used the battery pack but I pumped for a half hour with the same results I get with the power cord. It works great and is super convenient with the cooler.
  • I have the pump in style and a car adapter, there isn't any difference in the suction.
