2nd Trimester

Back and groin pain

I am 23 weeks and for the past 2 weeks I've been having TERRIBLE back and groin pain when I try to turn over at night and when I am getting out of a chair. The best way I know how to describe it is it feels like the baby is not adjusting well; if that makes sense. Like all of organs and spine are seriously being crushed. I can feel and sometimes even hear a grinding of some sort. All I know is that it is very painful and even puts me in tears sometimes. I didn't have this in my last pregnancy so I have no clue what this is. Anyone else having this same issue? And what makes it even worse is my fiancé doesn't understand. He just thinks I'm being a baby and that it's not that bad. I wish I could show him the pain that this truly causes me.

Re: Back and groin pain

  • It "sounds" like it could be pelvic girdle pain. If it's in the front too it could also be symphysis pubis dysfunction. It's very painful and I have had it since before week 20. Despite stopping exercise that could aggravate it, trying stretches that could help, and even a support belt, nothing has helped. Mine is only the front though (Sdp). Sleeping is the worst for me. If I turn over, or God forbid get up to go pee, it's almost unbearably uncomfortable. And yes the tears do fall. Talk to your dr about your symptoms so they can determine how to treat you. I know after this weekend (I'm at 27 wks and this has been the worst pain so far) I'll be calling mine bc previous recommendations have not worked, and with 13 possibly weeks left, I can't go on like this. I had a very mild form of this in comparison in my last pregnancy also.

And tell your fiancé to suck it (nicely I guess :) )
