Middle name

I still have quite a ways to go, but the name I'm pretty sure will be my next son's name is Pax. I was never drawn to this name before but I have a really hard time with boys names and when my husband brought it up, it just felt right and I knew it was my son's name. Same thing happened with my first boy. Not looking for opinions on the first name as I've pretty much decided but I really need help with the middle name. Bird, nature or astronomy related would be nice as bird names run in the family. Last name is short, 3 letters, starts with a G and is a word so some names just don't work. A longer middle name seems right to me given the two short names for first and last, similar to my husband. Thanks for your thoughts.

Re: Middle name

  • Just so you know, Pax was the goddess of peace in Roman Mythology. It's a feminine name.

  • Since you have such a short first name, I suggest a long middle name.

    Alexander
    Gregory
    Gideon
    Benjamin
    Zachary
    Married 10/4/2014 (10-4, good buddy!)
    Baby Boy #1 born 1/9/17

  • Pax..

    Oliver
    Thomas
    Walter
    Charles
    Matthew
    Nathaniel
    DD: Ophelia 5/18/15
  • Pax is also the acronym/name of a major international gaming convention that has 5 locations/events throughout the year.
  • Pax Orion
    Pax Rowan
    Pax Forrest
    Pax Edwin
    Pax Altair
    Pax Apollo

That's about all I could come up with that has to do with astronomy/nature/bird. I would've suggested Phoenix but not with Pax as a first name, it sounds odd since both end in x.

    Pax Alexander
    Pax Gideon
    Pax Dominic
    Pax Benjamin
    Pax Christopher
    Pax Cameron
    Pax Samuel
    Pax Elijah
    Pax Gabriel
    Pax William
    Pax Nathaniel
    Pax Julian
    Pax Oliver
    Pax Mateo
    Pax Malachi
    Pax Malcolm
    Pax Finnegan
    Pax Frederick
    Pax Augustus
  • Thank you! We mentioned ourselves Pax Orion last night and that might be a winner. Or even Orion Pax. We'll see. We thought of Phoenix too, but agree totally with your comments on it. :)

  • If your last name is only 3 letters, I really think his first name should have more than one syllable. Obviously you can choose Pax if you really love it, but a longer first name would sound better.

  • I don't understand people. She straight up said she didn't want opinions about Pax. No WK here; just so confused why people do these things when you know the person doesn't want to hear it.
  • Because it's a baby names board.

  • I don't understand it either, but yet I knew it was going to happen. Also, My husband has a first name with 3 letters. I asked him if it bugged him that he had two short names and he said no. So, it's a non-issue for us. And I'm well informed on the name Pax as I did my research and I have still chosen it. Thank you to those that are helping me with the middle name.

I just figured you should know it's a Roman goddess. Your son may not appreciate being named after a goddess when he gets older. But you do you.
  • I agree that a longer middle name works better. I like Pax Alexander.

I also figured you'd want to know that a major gaming convention shared the name. It's not like anyone said it was a bad name, a couple people pointed out possible unforseen downsides.

But it's not my kid, and it's not an offensive option like Cohen, so you do you.

I like your option of Orion Pax because your last name is short. If you decide to keep Pax as first name, here are middle names I suggest or second based on your criteria:

    Pax Orion
    Pax River
    Pax Forrest
    Pax Adler (Eagle)
    Pax Jonah (dove)
    Pax Robin
