13wks wieght gain.!

First baby.. 13wks.. i have already gained 14lbs.! Started at 134 already 148 is this normal.?

  • Talk to your doctor, they will tell you what they think you should gain.

    There is a standard but There are different ranges as well for different body types.

  • I agree to talk to your doctor. I'm in the same boat as you though. Started at 136 and at I think 146 right now. My doctor told me to gain only 25-30 lbs for the whole pregnancy so thankfully the weight gain has slowed down a bit.

  • I started out at 134 and am at 138 right now. With my last pregnancy I did most of my weight gain in the second tri. I have actually been surprised that I haven't gained much this time around but am going to talk to the doctor about it next week when I go in. Everyone is different and it's important to remember that.

    I'm 13 weeks today and have gained 2! I think it had a lot to do with my nausea and food aversions. I'm a FTM so no previous experience.

    ETA: I also started my pregnancy maybe pounds overweight so they want ladies who have extra fat to not gain as much, vice versa for skinnier ladies.

  • I've only gained 2 so far at 14 weeks. I'm hoping to only gain up to 30lbs so I was excited to see that. With ds I gained 50. That's about 16lbs a trimester. My OB was super happy with it!

  • I lost 15 lbs since my food aversions came and appetite left. Nothing is really "normal" as long as your doctor is not concerned. I know I will make up the weight when I get more of an appetite hopefully in the second trimester.

    I have gained 8 and I am 13+4. I attribute it to the first tri sickies and exhaustion causing me to fall off the exercise wagon and carbs being the only thing that would settle my stomach. My doc didn't seem concerned, she just suggested including fresh fruits and veggies and gentle exercise now that I'm feeling better.

  • I have gained about 4 or 5lbs at 14 weeks tomorrow. I gained about 40lbs with both my previous pregnancies. I'm really hoping to stick to the 25-35 they recommend this time but didn't really have too hard of time losing the baby weight with my previous pregnancies. I crave carbs constantly and admittedly am eating like a trucker.

  • I would talk to your doctor and maybe take a look at diet/exercise. I gained about 4 pounds, mostly because I was eating a lot of fat and carbs since it helped my nausea. I also wasn't exercising much but now that my energy is back I have been more. Switching out some of the junk food for healthier foods like veggies and fruit and low fat protein sources has not only helped me feel better but my weight gain kinda slowed.

  • I had gained 4 lbs as of my 11 week appointment but I am overweight to begin with. My Dr didn't seem to mind. But now that I am not completely exhausted I can start working out again and get back to a more normal routine. As much as I don't want our winter to come too soon, it has been a warm summer and we don't do air Conditioning here so a more mild temperature will help too! I could hardly fathom being 8 months pregnant with no AC in the summer.
  • I am 14 w4d and I have gained 5 pounds. I gained 40 with my first and really want to keep to 25-30 as recommended. Being pregnant when the holidays start is a really easy time to pack on pounds which I also learned from my first! Good luck everyone and as wig everything moderation is also a good bet!
  • I'm 13w1d and have gained about 4 to 5 pounds so far, i too am hoping for the 25-35 pounds and not too much over!

    I'm very active so that is good! I have gained about 8 lbs since pregnancy. Lost 2 to 3 lbs the first week and then gained I think by eating carbs and my vacation to the beach contributed to the weight gain also. I'm like 8 to 10 lbs heavier. Not really eating all the great... I need to start. Bc I can see how the holidays could contribute to weight gain bc how I was on vacation. I'm 14 weeks 2 days
  • I think I gained 10 lbs in the first trimester with my son and have only gained 4 lbs so far at 14 weeks with my daughter, so maybe it means u r having a boy? I wouldn't worry too much about it. Maybe you'll gain less in the next trimester. Check with your OB though about how much she thinks you should gain.
  • I haven't gained anything at 14 weeks. I Was like that with my twins though, didn't gain anything until 16ish weeks when my dr told me to eat more protein! Like others said just ask your dr!

  • I gained, too! About 8-10 pounds in total at 13 weeks. It's hard for me to face (hello, body-image issues!), but I was technically underweight and obsessive to begin with. From a few days pre-BFP, I started eating much much more regularly with the intention of nourishing my bean--and I cut down running quite a bit. Plus there were weeks that carbs were necessary to manage nausea... My doc hasn't said anything yet and I'm kinda too embarrassed about how fast I put it on to bring it up... While I'm aware of the 25-pound 'rule' and all, I feel like I know what's healthy and I'm sure she'd tell me I'm fine because I started low. Just been more cautious now that I'm no longer underweight, but definitely having to pep-talk myself not to restrict my intake. I exercise daily and let myself have chocolate every night :) just sticking to the 80-100% cacao range.

  • I've gained 6 pounds at 12 weeks 5 days. I know I need to exercize more but I am still so tired that I sleep within an hour or two or coming home from work.
  • With my first, I gained about 15lbs by the time I was 12-13 weeks. My dr told me to keep an eye on it, but it plateaued for awhile and in the end I ended up gaining about 35lbs total which my dr was fine with. She said she was concerned at first about the rate of weight gain, but that she really only cares about the overall weight gain which was within normal recommended amount for my size. So like pp said, talk to your dr but I wouldn't be too worried unless the weight gain continues at the same rate.

  • I have gained 6. I really need to kick it into gear and start walking since I'm feeling better... Being pregnant during all the great holidays and food get togethers is going to be killer.

    I'm hoping (not really) heartburn sets in by then and I won't have to stuff myself.
  • I'm 14+4 and so far have gained 0lbs. Strange as I have only been sick twice and was a healthy weight before! Hoping it's not all going to pile on at once :'D
  • I'm 14.4 and gained 0lb. I dropped down 2 lbs during a stomach bug because I could keep anything in for about 18 hrs but went back up to where I was once I started to eat and drink again. I gained more with my first preg then I have my past two or this one. I also was at my smallest starting weight with my first then any other. I've started out about 30 lbs over weight this time so I def have less to gain then some.
  • I'm up around 4-5 lbs at 12 weeks. I have to be constantly snacking or I feel sick, and I was constantly sick with DS until 30ish weeks. I gained 36lbs with him, and my OB got on to me quite a bit. I lost it quickly (thank goodness) but had finally lost weight just before this pregnancy so I'm hoping to gain under 40 lbs again this time.

    But honestly: be healthy. If you're eating a sh11t ton of food for whatever reason, keep it as healthy as possible and keep the sodium down and you'll be ok. That's my non professional opinion. Lol

  • Every person and every pregnancy will be different. I didn't gain any weight with my twins until 25 weeks no food aversions or morning sickness either. Then I managed to gain 35lbs over the next 10 weeks.

    This time, with just a singleton, I've gained 3lbs by 14 weeks.

    I think the bump said the average amount is 1-5 pounds in the first trimester. I'm sure you'll be fine, it's a big picture thing. :)
  • I'm almost 12 weeks, I've gained 3 lbs, but I normally gain about 35 lbs a pregnancy. I'll catch up soon enough!!

  • I'm 14 weeks and I've gained almost 10 pounds. I'm 5"1 and weighed 104 when I got pregnant.
  • I have lost 15 since I found out I was pregnant and am now 14w 5d. My doctor wasn't worried about it at my last appointment. The baby is healthy. Everyone is different.
  • Its different for every person, and every pregnancy.  My first pregnancy I started out at 107, and ended up at 137.  Yeah, 30lbs!  Come to find out I have high amniotic fluid levels, thus the major weight gain!  With this pregnancy, I've had nausea and significant meat aversions along with aversions to some other foods as well.  So I'm 13 weeks and have gained a total of 2 lbs!  My doctor said this is perfectly fine this early on, especially having been sick and not to worry.  Hope this helps!

  • 12w3d and total of 5lbs. Crossing my fingers the weight gain slows down a bit. Eating healthier options now that nausea is under control. Still working out as well.
  • I'm 13 weeks and have gained 3lbs. I was up to 5-6lbs by the end of my first trimester with my DD so pretty close this time around. Gained 35lbs total with my first pregnancy.

  • 13 weeks here and I've gained around 4 pounds. I haven't been feeing well enough to start exercising until this week. Time to get back to the gym.
  • Started at 147 and I'm at 142- 13 weeks on Wednesday. Lots of food aversions and nausea. Hopefully I'm out of the woods SOON.
  • During my first trimester I gained a pound and then lost it. I was concerned but my doctor said it was fine and that I would be gained more weight in my 2nd and 3rd trimester. I am also trying to watch a lot of the foods I am eating. Diabetes runs in both of our families as adult onset and I was already labeled overweight by my primary doctor so I am really trying to be careful. I gained over 70 lbs with my first, 40 with my second and 30 with my 3rd.
  • I just got back from vacation and am afraid to weigh myself. I honestly think most of my weight gain has been due to cutting way down on exercise. I was training for an Ironman before I found out so 10+ mile runs, 30-50 mile rides and 2 mile swims each week working out 2x/day. Now I'm only working out 1x/day maybe 2 if I lift weights. I wonder if that's the same case for others. You may have even been slightly underweight before. I think the body does a good job of adjusting to a healthy weight for baby.

  • I'm 14 weeks and have lost weight so far. My doctor said he wants to see me start to gain a little in the second tri now that many of my symptoms are starting to lessen, but that every pregnancy is different so not to stress about it.
