You have to careful about hypothermia. They sell little wetsuits to keep them warm. I forgot what the temperature needs to be but it has to be pretty warm bc they can't regulate their temperature yet.
I took my 10 week old in my parents pool twice this week end, she loved it! It was about 82 degrees and we only kept her in for about 10 mins. I don't know if I could put her in a public pool yet because they use some pretty heavy duty chlorine and my dad put in as little as he could to protect LO.
I took my 6 week in my parents pool this past weekend. The pool was heated to 87 degrees and he loved it!! We only had him in for about 5-10 minutes but it was a great experience!
I've been taking a swim class with DD since she was 8 weeks. She's been very good and had no problems. She's much more comfortable in the bath now too.
I asked my Ped about chlorine and she said she was far more concerned with sun exposure and temperature regulation but to (obviously) avoid having them swallow the water as much as you can.
Yes sorry if I wasn't clear - I asked about it with their skin and she wasn't worried. We have gone swimming twice now and I've wiped the babies down immediately after with fresh water (not her recommendation, just made me feel better). No issues.
What did you do about diapers? leave a regular one on? Put a swim diaper on? or no diaper at all?I know the swim diapers are only meant to keep in solids and BF babies as we all know don't really produce solids anyway lol

We took our LO swimming last weekend and she absolutely loved it! And she was POOPED afterward. Put a reusable swim diaper, a hat and a uv top on and went when it was shady.
The one from Walmart said it was good starting at 1 year so we put a dish towel in it to help him sit up. The other one I got said it was good from 9 months and up and fits him better.
DH was a lifeguard and suffered from chlorine toxicity- so we stay away from pools. That said DS LOVES the water so we go swimming in the lakes in our area. Very fortunate to have fresh water close by
I've been taking baby in the pool ever since i was cleared! Which wasn't until 8w :P at first I just held her while I walked in the water, letting half of her be in the water. I don't think hypothermia's an issue here in south Texas! I got a floatie for her, intended for....6m olds to a year I think so I still have to hold her up or make her lay a different way while still ofc holding the float. Tons and tons of baby sunscreen!!!! She's sooooo pale compared to how dark my son was. I'm just pale from living in WA for 3 years
