DS took 2.5 hours to fall asleep last night. What. The. Heck. He's never done this before. I was at my wits end. He wasn't crying. Wasn't upset. Just laid there eyes wide open while we rocked him. And rocked him. And rocked him. Please say this was a one time thing. I gave up after 1.5 hours and went to bed. Thank goodness DH was a bit more patient than I was.
I'm trying to teach my 11 week old to fall asleep on her own and it's been tough because when she does do it she will only nap for about 45 min max and then is overtired at the end of the day so we just rock her to sleep. Wondering if I'm starting too soon or was I just really lucky with my first child bc I don't remember it being this hard! Are you all starting sleep training now or waiting until 3+ months old?
My LO hates the act of going to sleep. Once i get her there she will sleep great....but seriously its so hard to get her to pass out! She will be up for 5 or 6 hrs at a time before really getting fussy. I love to go to sleep...clearly did not pass that gene on

I need to start getting DS to practice going to sleep on his own (put down drowsy but not asleep). But I'm not planning on doing official sleep training until he's 5-6 months old. Then DH and I have already said we will likely do CIO.

You're definitely not starting too early. I started when my LO was 6 weeks. It took a few days, and we still have some tears, but at 10 weeks she's a champ! Also, babies this young don't connect sleep cycles so they will wake up between 30-45 mins into their naps. I always leave her and she falls back to sleep probably 8 or 9 out of 10 times. She's not perfect at it but I definitely don't have to do anything to get her to sleep
I HATE when DD naps bad during the day. Only two or three 30min naps and then she is a terror in between 6 PM and 9PM because she is over tired but then fights sleep like you wouldn't believe. She pretty much runs the show on when she naps. The only consistent nap she does is in the morning. She will get up, eat and then play for an hour or two or her playmat and fall asleep on her own there. She will usually sleep for around an hour. And then I put her down for the night after her 8:00 feeding, dream feed around 11 and she usually gets up in the morning around 7.
Should I be scheduling naps during the day at certain times? How long should they be? I would like to get into a routine on days that we are home.

It's a bit early to schedule specific times for naps I would think (from what I've heard you can start doing that closer to the 4.5-5 month mark). But I definitely plan DS's naps according to his wake time. I don't let him stay up for more than 1.5 hours at a time (that will shift to 2 hours once he's 3 months old). Right now, once we hit 1.25 hours I start getting him ready for a nap. It's very rare that he fights it or isn't asleep within 5-10 minutes of rocking. If he shows me signs that he's tired before that (I now know his tired cry) then we nap earlier.
I do schedule his feedings every 3 hours. So if he wakes up from a nap too early that it's going to mess with his feeding time, then I rock him back to sleep. He will nap anywhere from 45 minutes to 2.5 hours. The latter being extreme if he had a short nap the time before. Most naps work out to 1.5 hours.
Oh and he takes 4 naps per day. I'll likely shift this to 3 closer to that 5 month mark when I do more scheduled naps.

My LO has been on a schedule since around 4 weeks. Now almost 10 weeks, he naps for 45 mins at 9:00, 2 1/2 hours at 11:30 or 12:00 and cat naps for 5-15 minutes around 4:30. He goes down for the night at 7:00, I wake him to nurse at 10:00 and then he sleeps until around 5:00, nurses and then is back asleep until 7:00.
Is anyone co-sleeping? My baby sleeps like a champ WITH mommy, but heaven forbid I try to slip out of bed in the morning while she's still asleep - at most that lasts 10 minutes. Ditto she sleeps on my lap before I head to bed with her at 10 - there's no putting her to bed in the bed without me. I love co-sleeping with her other than that - we now don't get up at all at night - she just dream feeds once or twice in the night right in bed, so I'm sleeping 10 to between 7 and 9am.
Edit: Her ideal is 9amish, but if I slip out of bed early, she's up with me at 7.
My 10 week old has, luckily, been sleeping through the night for most nights for a month now in his crib. There are some nights where he refuses to go to sleep early(growth spurts I believe). But for the most part he sleeps. My ritual is bath at 8:45, book and feeding. (He is almost asleep at this point.) Then we put him in his nighttime zipper blanket and he lays in bed with me feeding one more time till he dozes off. It's about 11 at that point. I put him in his crib and sometimes he wakes up, but I just pat his back while he is in the crib and he falls back to sleep. A question I have is even with me patting his back is that last part technically him going to sleep on his own? I've seen him do it, but normally at that point I'm ready for bed and don't risk messing up his sleepiness.
I do the 90 minutes of awake time also, and my daughter naps between 45-90 minutes each nap. Then, no matter what time she last woke up, I put her in the Merlin around 9:30, feed one more time, pop in her paci, and she falls right to sleep for the night until 6:00ish. I think the 90 minute rule really works. When she wakes around 6am, I bring her into bed with me, feed her, and then we sleep together until 7:30ish. That's the only cosleeping we do. I'm too nervous to sleep longer than that with her. Always afraid I'll roll and land on top of her.
