Conception date?? Who the eff knows :). We went off last period that was 02-02(?) EDD is 11-09 and my 3 prior babies were born on, day before, & 30min after EDD so history shows mine will likely come right about then.

Lerk around for a while, check older boards to really find how this forum goes. Things have settled in since the end of first tri start of 2nd tri. But you will get a good idea of what is embraced well by our community and what isn't be checking older threads :).

    Happy bumping :)
  • When people claim to know the exact date they conceived I always feel so bad for them for having so little sex that individual events stand out like that.

In other news, I really want a donut...
Meh. Some ladies go through infertility treatment and have eggs implanted so they would know the exact date even if they were having sex 10x a day every day. That's what I usually assume when people know the exact day.
If there's something strange underneath the hood.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  If there's something weird and it don't look good.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  Immediately.  If it's new, painful, and possibly pregnancy related get your ass off the internet and call your doctor.  It's for your health and your child's.

  • Sorry, should have included that as a proviso. I seem to have my snarky pants on today...
  • Lol. No problem. I don't know if that's the case with OP or not, I just typically assume that.

After two years of trying my doctor had be begin a detailed record of the times and dates I had sex, my period, body temp., and weight which I kept up for almost 2years so that I could do ivf if I couldn't conceive by year 2. so to say you "feel so bad for them for having individual events stand out" is very rude and judgmental to say. Not all of us can just have unprotected sex a few times and get pregnant. I know my exact date of conception due to my records I needed to keep for medical reasons. So please don't insult us who have determined a conception date.

My apologies. This is one of those times when words on a screen lacking tone of voice make me sound like an ass. I am not a rude or judgemental person, I have too many people in my life who have experienced infertility to be that person. My assumption from OPs post, perhaps wrongly, is that we had another special snowflake in our midst and my comment was intended to be lighthearted. Like I said, I meant not harm so please don't read any intent into my post that wasn't there. I'm sorry that my comment could be construed as hurtful, that was about as far from my aim as possible.

I don't think @FilbertTree meant to include those of us going through infertility treatment based on her follow-up response just before you posted.  DH and I endured 3yr+ of fertility treatments to have DS (ended up having success with IVF as we are medically incapable of having intercourse that results in pregnancy).  Sadly this comes from a male factor issue and we had to go the donor route.  With this LO we went by our FET date to back into our conception date (and subsequent EDD), but you honestly don't come across many women who can guarantee a conception date and I think that is all that was meant by the comment.  In fact, some friends of mine going through fertility treatment after years of trying ended up getting pregnant with a little miracle baby outside of their cycle window!
  • Question though. Even if you were traking, how could you know for sure the exact time when you had sex, IF you had sex more then once while ovulating since sperm can live for a few days? I know when my husband and I were activley trying with this one, we had a LOT of sex :) so I have no clue wich one was the lucky swimmer.

I know the exact time with my first 3 since well my sex life wasn't very "active" at that time with the hubby. Even then though it wasn't until after my first ultra sound when we found out exactly how far along I was because of questionable periods.

The only guarantee for knowing the exact date of conception (given sperm can live for a few days) is like the situation I mentioned above where an individual or couple is undergoing fertility treatment and it is proven that one or both can't otherwise conceive without intervention.  Even in the case of intervention, to know the exact you still need a more aggressive procedure such as IVF.  For example in my case, it doesn't matter how often DH and I have sex, it's not going to happen.  IVF is a pretty spot on way to know conception date.
  • Or theres people like me who have a man who works out of town and only had one chance to have sex that month lol im sure theres many women who know their conception date
  • I know exactly when we conceived because it was our first time back in the saddle after my MC in early Feb. I was surprised when I got a positive OPK the next day, thrilled when we got a BFP a few weeks later, and here we are at 26w3d! Only sharing this because there are MANY reasons why someone might know the exact date of conception. And there is no need to "feel so bad" for us.

Correct me if I am wrong, but even if you knew the date that you had sex to get pregnant, you still don't technically know the date of conception.  Conception could have taken place up to 5 days after the sex.

    This.

    This.
And a positive OPK means a surge could happen in the next 12-24 hours, so not always when there is a positive OPK does it mean you conceived that day. Also if you have sex a few days leading up to it, how do you know which sperm won since they can live a couple days? I mean, I know I had a positive OPK on 2/17, but we had sex like 2/14, 2/16,2/17,2/18 so I would technically not know which day I actually conceived. Point is, we can only speculate. Unless you had IVF etc and then obviously you know date of transfer.

  • Hello I'm due nov 30 and conception date I really don't know, me and my dh were having sex every other day! My doctor went by the first day of my last period. And as I got further along he measured me and that's how we got due date.

I don't understand why people even care what day they conceived. Is this a thing? Are you going to write it in your LO's baby book?

    Agreed. Who gives a crap?

The date of conception is not always the date you had sex. Sperm can survive inside the vaginal canal for about a week, and if ovulation hadn't occurred yet at the time of intercourse, it's most likely that the egg wasn't fertilized until several days later (plus, if I remember correctly, fertilization can take a day or two even in ideal conditions). Knowing when you had sex =/= knowing when you conceived.
