Dr just pulled me out of work

So I had an appt this afternoon and she is pulling me out of work effective immediately. I'm only 32 weeks 1 day. I'm really freaked out and just really need support. My job is letting me work from home until I find my replacement which I'm super greatful for but then what after that? Financially this sucks, I'm sure it's manageable somehow but there is so much running through my head all I can do is cry literally! Any helpful advice??

I'm sorry to hear that. I developed pupps rash and it's getting worse, I had spoken to my doc today after work and she actually advised me to let my job know I've developed complications and shouldn't be working. I really hope my company will let me work from home. I'm only 30weeks. I'm worried about finances and all as well. I don't have much advise but I'm here for support! Maybe look into disability? Honestly I'm not too aware of it, but I'm going to start looking into it asap. Hang in there! Hope you a healthy and happy pregnancy.

  • I plan on quitting at 36 weeks and am using medical leave until I have the babes then switching to LOA. Why did your doc pull you from work? I hope everything's ok

That stinks... I live in NY, one of the most expensive states and our state disability max is $170 a week it's a joke in my eyes, that's not even gas money. Lol

I'm apparently developing pre-eclamsia but it's not even that bad. I was just expecting her to say they'll keep an eye one it but she didn't and basically demanded that Monday would be my last day working. I have an appt next Thursday and she said that by then I need to be not working and she wasn't kidding. By what she was saying I'm lead to believe that they will be inducing me or something but I'm not sure.
  • Will your OB allow you to work part-time or work under certain terms that your employer should become aware of?

I'm sorry this is happening. I hope your next appointment goes better for you and that you find out more answers.

Thank you. She said working from home was fine for now but that's it. So I'll do that for as long as I can until the baby comes. My boss will most likely let me do 2 or 3 weeks of this I'm thinking but idk for sure.
  • P.s. I work as an HR Manager so that's hard to be without on site, my office is the go to spot for employees... :-(

So many questions! Why can't you work from home for the next 6 weeks? What did the note say? Are you officially on bed rest? I'm in a similar situation and my doctor wrote a note expressing concern for my health and I now work from home until birth day. If you are able to perform your job function adequately from home you shouldn't be forced to start mat leave or disability. I would contact the dept of labor and a even a lawyer to learn your options. Edited because I actually read the thread lol! Since you are HR you know company policy better than anyone. Now I have a new question - are they letting you go or can you come back after baby?

Yesssss! I live in NY as well. It is so expensive and your right, 170 is not enough. My boyfriend has a company and its doing great, but at the same time I like having my own. I have a great job and to think I have to be put out early just sucks.

Thanks. But because of my role im well aware of all of my options lol. I think my company is very nice for allowing me to work from home because many other ppl that I know haven't been so lucky. Although financially stopping early sucks, doing most of my job requires me to be there to do exit interviews, interviewing, training etc. Our controller is helping me a lot by scanning me time cards just so I can do payroll....it's just really hard for me to do many things without getting stuff if that makes sense.
  • Oh and the note said that I am to be excused from work from 8/10 until 10\1 (my due date)
  • Welcome to the club. I was put on bedrest last Monday so I just finished my 2nd week working solely from home. Thankfully my work will let me work from home until I deliver so financially I'm ok but I really am having a hard time working from home. I seriously have no motivation and it's just harder to work on a laptop vs the awesome 2 monitor setup I have at the office. I still have 10 weeks to go :(

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who sees how sucky this system is Lmao I feel like it's set up for those who get permanent disability payments, not for those of us who are on it temporarily due to medical necessity and then go back to work.

    Edited: same thing lol

Hahaha I was thinking did she see my job title ;-) no, I'm not being let go. My boss said they'll discuss my length of working from home with senior management and then I'll just start an unpaid loa most likely. I can return after the baby, once my Dr writes me back in once I'm no longer "disabled" due to birth.

I hate to say it, but NY also taxes the disability check. You won't even get close to $170 a week. Welcome to NY.

Are you kidding me? That's even worse!!!! Ugh
  • I think so far the advice you got was good. Check on disability and look at your budget to see where you can cut back. You might be surprised because since you'll be home and supposed to be resting you'll spend less than if you were out every day.
*on a cheer you up note: it's a good thing that your doc caught the complications and your job allows for some time working from home. Do what you can and get the rest you and baby need. It's surprising how we can make it by on less when we have to! Good luck and good thoughts!

Thanks. This is very true. We actually made some moves today and figured out a very comfortable financial plan, so I'm feeling much less stressed out. Now I'm just focused on keeping this little one inside for as long as possible.

Yeah I'm sure I'll be bored by day one. Hopefully I can stay so busy it flys by. My work laptop is much smaller than my desktop so I feel you there! Best of luck for a happy healthy rest of pregnancy!!
  • Did you consider sharing with your doctor that you cannot leave work due to financial constraints and if there's an alternative, like ongoing blood pressure checks to monitor? If I were you, I would be upset if I was signed out of work and I went full term. Can't you decline to leave work?

Yes, I told her. She said she understood but at the end of the day in the best interest of the baby's health and mine, I need to stop working asap but no later than my next appointment which is 6 days from yesterday. The workaholic in me wanted to ignore her, but if something happened to the baby I'd never forgive myself so I made the tough call. I guess the mom in me is kicking in :;-)
  • Oh and if I go full term I'll be pissed but I think she's going to induce me at 37 if not sooner. She kept throwing that number around, but I have no idea what her plan is but I shall be asking this week!
