40W scan/BPP

I have my 40 week appt coming up (if LO decides to stay put that is!) and i am scheduled for an ultrasound to see if and i quote my OB "its still safe for you to be pregnant another week". I have gained an obscene amount of weight (55 pounds) but my BP proteins and sugars have always been good. Has anyone had experience with getting the 40w ultrasound or is it just standard?

Re: 40W scan/BPP

  • I was 40 w yesterday and had an ultrasound. They checked fluid levels and position, put me on the monitor for 20 min and did a cervical check. I have to go back Monday if he hasn't come before then, but I don't have an induction scheduled yet!

  • I went 41 +4 last time and never had an ultrasound after the 20 week anatomy scan (and I gained 60lbs) but this time they keep checking to see if she's head down and whatnot. I think it just depends on the doctor.
  • I will have a BPP on Tuesday at 40+3 if baby boy hasn't arrived. I am really hoping he comes this weekend though!

  • Nope. Maybe ask what your doctor is looking for and what criteria they use to determine "safety"

  • We have ultrasounds and NSTs at the 41 week mark but I assume every practice does it a little bit differently.
  • If I don't deliver by 41 weeks, next Tuesday, my doctor will order a NST and unltrasound to check fluid levels. That is what I would assume he meant by checking to see if it's safe. I've gained 30 pounds. Weight has nothing to do with it from what I've ever heard. It's standard practice after your due date to check these things.
  • I just got back from mine, they do it prior to inducing just to make sure everything is good. They checked fluid levels, placenta, estimated baby size and checked his heart and stomach.
  • How many days before inducing you? I have to go for one at 41 weeks if I haven't delivered and forgot to ask the doctor when they would induce me.
  • I have one on Monday morning. Checking fluid levels and making sure it's still a good environment for baby. This will also determine when my induction will be.....I hope I go into labor before Monday :((
  • My dr does them as standard. I have one scheduled for 40 weeks 1 day if LO doesn't come before then.

I asked my OB if I go past DD (wednesday) when they would induce and she said 41 weeks. Ugh I hope i dont have to wait that long and baby comes on his own. She did say she wants to check Babys size and fluid. I guess it was just the way she casually mentioned the whole "safe to still be pregnant" as she walked out the door that threw me for a loop. Like im not anxious enough already!
