Tightening after urinating

hey guys! I'm gonna call my doctors office tmrw just to make sure this is normal but has anyone else experienced tightening after releasing their bladder? It just feels like my uterus is sort of tightening up and squeezing and it causes me a bit of discomfort. This happens almost every time after I pee. If anyone else has experienced this it might give me some peace of mind. I'm 20 weeks.

Re: Tightening after urinating

  • Happens to me a couple times a day, it never worried me though just figured it was a thing that happens. Totally uncomfortable. Let me know what they say and if I should be worried.

I've been feelIng this too. Since early on but only a few times over the last couple months. Difference is since yesterday I have also felt it while walking. Like my abdominal wall or pelvic floor isn't as strong as it should be. Is this your first? This is my third and I'm wondering if it has anything to do with that.
  • That sounds like Braxton hicks to me. Nothing to worry about if that is what it is. Maybe try drinking more water.
  • Yeah I'm pretty sure this is Braxton hicks. I get the same thing occasionally - even more so if I've been holding my bladder for too long or really have to go!
  • Probably Braxton Hicks contractions, but don't hesitate to call your doctor if you're worried.
  • Yes this is my first! I was thinking Braxton hicks as well. I've called my doctor and they will call me back. I'll let you guys know :) thank you!

  • Yep...especially if i hold my pee to long haha
  • Yup I feel this too. Nothing crazy but Def a tightening after peeing.
  • I started feeling that today. It is Somewhat painful. Was going to call my OB tomorrow if it continues.
  • It started for me too today! Weird! Kind of felt like a UTI for a second, but not having any other discomfort.
  • This happens to me also! I'm glad it seems like a fairly common issue, because I didn't even know how to describe it to ask my doctor. I think it helps to pee slowly. It seems worse when I go fast.

  • Every time I'd had this happen pre-pregnancy, I was told it is a sign of a UTI or bladder infection. Also, I have kidney stones so it could be from those also. I'd ask your doctor, it's probably a UTI.

  • I also have this feeling but it mostly happens when I've held it in for to long or waited to long to go (especially in the morning if I haven't woken up to go in the middle of the night).
  • Yup! If I let my bladder get too full I usually have a Braxton Hicks contraction after. At night is the worst!
  • Talked to my.midwife about this today. She said its just cause of the proximity of the bladder and everything else that's taking up room in there. Said nothing about Braxton hicks.
  • I feel that too
  • Oh yeah, definitely. Like other PPs have said, it's usually after I've had to pee really bad. I think at this point the organs (including our bladder) are still shifting and bearing down to pee can put pressure on our uterus and abdomen. It sucks. Big time.
