I would definitely invest in a doula. And you should speak to your hospital/doctor regarding the process, and the medications you will be given.
My water broke, but contractions never started. I was given pitocin, and a lot of it. It was super rough, and intense. I wasn't allowed out of bed, and so it made laboring tough. I wish I had a doula there to help me and DH pull through with techniques and positions, etc.
Some woman have great induction experiences, and most of them seem to have a doula there to help. It would be worth it to me, if I knew I had to do it all over again.
I was induced last time...I made it to 5 fingers dilation before taking an epidural, it was more painful then my first born, then I made it with no epidural at all. be sure to ask for pain relief before you really need it.
I have been induced with both pregnancies I've had. Be prepared for sudden intense labor. Not very pleasant! I will at all costs not be induced this time. But my sister in law was induced with all three of her kids and didn't have the same experience so I guess it's a personal thing. Good luck
I was induced with my first two at 41 weeks and 40 weeks. The contractions definitely come on fast and strong and right on top of each other. I had epidural with both at about 4 cm. I will probably be induced again. I like being able to schedule the birth and make sure I get MY doctor. Good luck!!
I was induced at 40 weeks because of DD's medical issue. They used cervidil (a tampon-like medication that can be removed) to get me dilated to 2cm the night before. The following morning, my OB broke my water. I started walking around and contractions slowly picked up. I labored for 6 hours medication-free. No pitocin, no epidural, no IV (just a heplock). My husband was my birth coach. After pushing for an hour, my baby was born!
As far as advice goes, if they need to dilate your cervix prior to them putting you on pitocin or breaking your water, request that they use Cervidil instead of Cytotec. Cytotec is a like a tablet that they put on your cervix and dissolves to release the medication. Cervidil can be inserted and removed at any time. So, if you're prone to allergic reactions, being able to remove something versus it already being dissolves into your system is a big deal. Cervidil can serve you well! Lol
I had an induction with my first. Water broke but contractions didn't start so I was given the pitocin. I asked for pain meds immediately after contractions started. I'm a baby - did not want to see how bad they could get. I had an easy, pain-free birth. Second degree tear.
I was induced at 41w 1d. Unfortunately, after 17hrs I had only dilated 1cm and was hardly effaced. All the meds were maxed out. I opted for the c-section before baby went into distress. A vaginal birth just wasn't in the cards for me.
I'm not able to compare natural contractions vs induced contractions, but they do come on hard and fast with induction.
My SIL was induced with 2 pregnancies and had easy labors (with epidurals) and pushed for 2 hrs with #1 and only 15min with #2.
I think you just need to remember that every woman's experience will be different. As long as mom and baby are ok in the end, it's all good!

I was induced at 41w3d because he was never leaving on his own, lol (was 0% and 0 cm when I checked in). I also did cervadil the night before and pitocin the morning of. He had a little bit of heart decelerating, but after a break from the pitocin and some oxygen, they put me back on it and he came a couple hours later. Less than 24 hours of labor overall, pushed for 2 hours and he arrived! It really wasn't that bad! (I remember saying that out loud to DH after he came out, too.) I had an epidural around 3 or 4 cm (a few hours into the pitocin) and was fine with just the hubs there.
I wasn't induced, but had to have labor augmented with Pitocin. The contraction are much more intense with pitocin. They are closer together and longer. I was in labor 10-12 hours pre pitocin and 10 -12 after the pitocin. It was rough, but I still managed to go pain med free.
off topic , but for the ladies that mentioned being induced at 40 or 41 weeks , what were some of the things you did to make it that far before going into labor ? im hoping DD doesnt come until after 39 weeks . lol
I went naturally at 39w5dy water broke and contractions started 5 mins later and they came fierce and strong !!! They were about 2 minutes apart starting off !!

Depends on your body and baby, the baby will come when babys ready or when your dr chooses !
I was induced at 39w1d with DD. My OB broke my water and I went from 1 cm to 10 cm in about 15 minutes. I never made it to pitocin.
Everyone's induction is different, please do not let other people's experiences scare you. If it is medically necessary to do an induction, you do what you have to in order to keep you and baby safe and healthy. Good luck!!

I was induced right at 40 weeks & it was definitely a slow process but I don't think it was anymore painful that going naturally with my second. Fairly simple as far as labor goes. Everybodys experience is different!
Babies aren't considered over due until 42 weeks. This is bc the estimated due date can be off. But it's also not unusual for them to come early at 38 weeks. Baby is ready when baby is ready.

The won't let us go to 42 weeks here. They will let us go 7-11 days over.

This bothers me so much! Other than being 40+ weeks or in medical need why would a doctor choose to induce? If im healthy my doctor won't even consider induction until I'm at least 40 weeks, and even she'll wait until I'm closer to 41 weeks before intervention. *kanye shrug*
I'm being told they will induce because of gestational diabetes with insulin and because of a congenial kidney defect. I would much rather (and was planning on a natural child birth of possible.)
Thanks for your advice. Keep it coming. I want to be as informed as possible.

Were you planning on trying to go pain-med free?
