Anatomy scan results

So I accessed my results from yesterday's ultrasound online and baby is meausing perfectly and she's healthy! But it said low normal cervical legth at 3cm. What exactly does that mean??(I'm going to ask my doctor in 2wks at my next appt) I heard it was related to preterm delivery. :/

Re: Anatomy scan results

  • My doctors has commented a few times on how I have a very long cervix and at my last appt I asked what that meant, was it good or bad? She said that's just normal, having a shorter cervix could put me at risk for miscarriage or preterm labor so the longer the better. She's checked mine a lot because I've had bleeding.

I would definitely speak to your doctor about it especially because you said it said "low normal" which is not a very straight forward verbiage. But try not to worry!

  • It can lead to preterm labor but my Dr said they worry when it gets around 2cm. Mine is 3.2cm which they said was normal. I wouldn't worry. Hope this helps.
  • I don't have any experience, but I believe that your doctor would have contacted you if it was of great concern? Sorry to hear this, but glad to hear LO is healthy and measuring on schedule!

Here is a link from a previous thread about a shortened cervix, https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12588995/what-would-you-do-frustrated-w-ob-short-cervix

  • I don't have a shortened cervix, but because i went early during my first pregnancy, I get a vaginal ultrasound every 2-3 weeks to measure the cervix length and make sure it's not shortening which could lead to premature labor. If your doctor wasn't worried then I wouldn't be either - they may ask you to have more ultrasounds to measure it but you should be ok.
