How do I go about doing so ?

I know I've made a very similar post about this a while back and I think someone else has too but slightly different but it doesn't quite answer what I now have in mind..

So if anyone recalls I was all for BF then was stuck between BF and formula feeding at one point .

So here's some background..

I have now have had my baby since and my hospital was all for BF and tried to avoid formula feeding at all cost if possible. Well my LO wasn't feeding like he should be and would latch to one side but not the other. Kept trying and it came to the point to where I had to formula feed . I was kept an extra day & discharged today because baby was feeding a lot better . Before I left the nurse gave me a Medela hand pump if I were to change my mind and wanted to try BF again .

My question is I want to do both formula and bottled breast milk so he can get everything he needs from me . But is that possible and how would I do so ?

    I would probably contact a lactation consultant. I supplemented with formula but I can't remember what I did. I switched to formula completely between 6-8 weeks old. An LC can probably give you some better insight into how much baby should be eating and how often.

    If I were you, I would alternate one of each between feedings. One bottle breast milk, one bottle formula the next time. It will be a little easier for him to digest. Plus if he doesn't drink a whole formula bottle, no big deal. When you use a breast milk bottle the next time, you can start with a little bit and warm up more if he is still hungry after finishing that one, that way you don't waste any. If you were to mix the formula and the breast milk in the same bottle and he were to not finish the whole thing, you would end up wasting breast milk.

    Oh I didn't know you could mix the two completely? But that's what I was asking if maybe one feeding use formula then the next breast milk .

    We did both with my first two, because you milk never really came in. I would BF, pump and supplement with formula. It's a lot to do for feeding, but if you have the supply and you don't mind pumping, you can do both. I pumped for the first few months and then we made the switch to just formula.

    Do you have access to a lactation consultant?  An LC would help you make sure you are getting your baby enough food at each feeding.  I was able to contact one from the hospital, but my peds office also has one on staff.
