Back hurting...already?

I had a lot of back pain with my last pregnancy- a near constant ache in the lumbar region and sharp sciatic pain (my back was already screwy from playing sports, so pregnancy didn't help). I woke up this morning with that all too familiar ache in my back and have had it all day off and on. I don't remember when it started last time, but I know it wasn't this early! Anyone else's back aching already?

Re: Back hurting...already?

  • I have an unstable sacroiliac joint  (a pre-pregnancy problem) so mine has been bothering me more the last few weeks.  I've been told some of the pain is because of the pregnancy hormones allowing the ligaments etc. to stretch out.

  • I'm having severe back pain today. I'm 8w4d. It hurts to do anything. It's my lower back so it's affecting everything I do. I'm hoping it goes away. ...soon!
  • Yup :)

Sorry :( I've been feeling the sciatic pain starting up too, along with the 'did I sleep in a funny position all night?' back ache.

    To the chiro!

@summergrl15 is it like a sharp stabbing pain in your lower back?  Like someone is punching you in the kidneys?  If so, drink more water stat!  That's dehydration.  If it's not sharp or stabby, carry on (and hugs).
  • I always have upper back pain as a wonderful perk of being very well endowed in the chest area. Now that said chest area is even bigger, even more back pain. But now I'm noticing some lower back pain too, which feels different (it's not as sharp and can't be relieved temporarily by cracking).

Is chiropractic adjustment safe during pregnancy?

Absolutely and highly recommended.  I don't think I would have survived my first two without it.

I was adjusted several times during pregnancy by a chiropractor who knew maternity adjustments.  I feel like it really helped with positioning for baby and keeping my hips correct for labor closer to time.
  • I am a nurse and work on my feet all but 30 minutes a day. My upper back this week started bothering me very much. Can't imagine how it will be when I am carrying a big belly!

Any idea on the cost? I doubt my insurance would cover it.

Really depends on the chiropractor.  And with my insurance, it's out of network but they do have chiro coverage - so they pay 70%/we pay 30%.  Each visit costs $50.  We have to submit every time.

  • I think mine is $30 with insurance and $40 without per visit?  Really not bad at all for the relief it offers.  I went maybe 5 times during my pregnancy.
  • I think mine costs about $30. Insurance doesn't cover it, or at least mine doesn't. My employer puts money into an HSA and I've used that.

  • @acleanlife24  Are you getting any heartburn lately?  I'm trying to remember but I'm thinking that back pain in the center of your upper back might be an accessory to heartburn?  Sorry for the pain :(

actually not... and I used to have it terriable and was always eating tums... I thank a major diet overhaul a ear ago for it.  It feels like a really deep bruise and just aches, hurts more when I try to stretch/contract it... I am going to the rheumy/obgyn on the 28th and hoping that I get a referral for physio on the NHS.  I have had to go off some pain management meds and really trying not to pop pills to treat it.  But somedays i want to lay flat on the floor and cry (then my doggy comes over because he wants to play)...

  • Yes! I think it is partially contributed to picking my 2 year old up (she's getting heavy) but the last two days ouch!!!

This second pregnancy is rough on me
  • I work as an nurse aide and joints I didn't even know I had are aching. I am glad I am not the only one. Mainly the knees and the back.,.
  • @acleanlife24 Hopefully you can find some relief!
