Car Seat/ Stroller Opinions

I have narrowed down my travel system options to the Britax B Safe/ B Agile system and the UppaBaby Mesa/ Vista system. Obviously the UB is significantly more expensive but aside from that, I would love to know your opinions on each system. Also, what are your thoughts on the UB Mesa with a different stroller, like the City Mini or other that has an adapter for it.

Thank you!

Re: Car Seat/ Stroller Opinions

  • I'm lurking from the November thread (due 27 so I could be either month). We just got our Uppababy Vista last week and I LOVE IT! The car seat is in back order, so I cannot attest to how they work together. My cousin has the system and highly recommended it to me. She is expecting twins this month and just got a second car seat (ordered it a while ago so she would have it for the birth) and loves how it will work for her twins.

Besides the personal recommendation, I liked how it felt when we tested it at the Buy Buy Baby. It has the largest under stroller basket on the markets and I liked that it came in colors other than black, we got the Georgie! Other positives: it comes with a bassinet. We live in Houston and I think the baby will be more comfortable in the bassinet vs the car seat if the weather is warmer this winter. I also like that the bassinet is approved for sleeping. We plan on getting the stand, it converts to a hamper, to use in our room for the first few weeks/months.

While we didn't really look at at the Britax, we did look at the Bugaboo. I thought that the UppaBaby was perfect for our needs, we will try to have a second child close in age and it converts to a double.

A good friend LOVES her city mini, she didn't use the Mesa with it. She told me I was wasting money getting the Uppababy because the city mini was the perfect stroller.

  • We just picked up the Britax B Agile/B safe combo for $325 at BRU after an Amazon price match. I really love that the stroller is very light and truly a one hand fold. We also considered the City Mini but went for the Britax due to not needing to purchase extra adapters for the car seat - the strollers are super similar. We also looked at jogging strollers but those were too bulky for our needs.

For us the Uppa Baby was just too out there on price and we didn't see a huge difference in quality to justify the purchase.

BTW for @hughesam1016 we are also in the Houston area!

We have the Britax B-Agile/B-safe combo. I got it before DD was born (she'll be 2 in October) and we still use it a ton (well, the stroller). I've loved it. I've had other moms comment on how light/easy it is to fold up, and the steering is great. I even use it to jog, although it's on neighborhood sidewalks so no rough terrain. DD's also kind of tall (65th percentile so not abnormally tall), and now that we've been trying out different brands for double strollers, I've noticed Britax has a lot more room between their head and the umbrella/awning. Her head even touches some of the awnings in a couple brands which I think is crazy. Something to think about for the future if you plan on using your stroller for a long time.

We'll be using the infant seat again for baby #2, and probably getting the double side by side Britax.

Recommendation - If you go with the Britax, I'd go ahead and get the cu pholder/organizer Britax makes that you can put on the handles. DD also uses the child tray a lot now for snacks and it has a cup holder for her. It's nice because you don't have to remove either of those to fold up the stroller.

    Hope this helps!

  • We were going to be gifted an UPPAbaby carseat so we did a bunch of research on it ... didn't actually end up getting it but it sounds like an awesome system and our friends who have it are in love with it. They also have a phenomenal warranty where if it breaks, they'll totally replace it. That's what happened with the one we were going to be gifted. Our friend's first one arrived slightly damaged so they called and they sent a completely new one ... they didn't have to return the first one. That's the one they were going to gift to us, but the piece that was broken (while cosmetic and not a safety concern) was annoying enough that we decided not to spend a lot of money on the stroller just to use it with a broken car seat. If we had the money to buy the entire combo, we would ... but we'll be going with either the B-Agile or the Chicco Bravo instead.

I've only heard great things about the UB.
  • We did the b-agile and b-safe combo for DS. This time we are grabbing an uppababy so we can easily go with the tandem configuration or add on the board. If you are thinking about adding to your family sooner than later, I'd probably just opt into the uppababy right off the bat so you won't have to worry about getting an additional stroller later.

@hughesam1016 , I'm in Houston too! Exceptional weather right?! I love how it rains for all of 20 minutes the other day, and it just made it nice and muggy outside.

I agree with the bassinet option too! I did not like leaving DS in his infant seat when we would be out and about. It's best if they have room to move so you don't worry to much about their heads getting flat spots.

  • Cool, that's three of us in the Houston area!
  • I am getting the baby jogger city select instead of the mini because the basket is bigger and you can reverse the seat. It was between that and the vista but the vista bassinet won't be much use to me since it will be very cold here from December to April and by then baby will be too big for it. I think they vista is a great choice if you live in a warm place where you can use the bassinet
  • For my son I bought the Britax B-agile system because I didn't see the point in spending $400 for a stroller just to turn around a buy a $300 car seat. I loved the stroller - lightweight, easy to maneuver and folds with one hand. The only complaint I had was the basket underneath is tiny and doesn't hold much. My sister bought the vista and complained about it everyday. It looks good and is the "it" stroller but it's clunky, heavy and not user friendly. If you like the B-agile look at the B-ready. It has a bigger basket, the bassinet vs seat option, and works with most car seats. If you can wait they usually have what's called "the free ride event" where if you buy the stroller you get a bassinet, car seat or 2nd seat free.
