So hungry all the time!

I am almost 7 weeks pregnant and the hunger I am experiencing is out of this world! This is my first pregnancy, and I was told no extra calories are really needed in the first trimester. But I am waking up with hunger pains in the night, and am starving an hour after eating during the day. Is this normal? I don't want to gain unnecessary weight but I won't starve myself either.

Eat!  Your body is telling you it needs food.  It needs fuel to grow this baby.  Someone once told me that your body is basically going through a daily marathon to create a life - marathon runners need fuel, you do too.

  • Same here! I'm nonstop starving! It's driving me crazy.
  • Me too! I have been nonstop hungry. I have been trying to choose healthier, filling snacks, like apples... but it's driving me crazy!

  • I'm super nauseated during the first tri but I definitely experience the hunger after the 1st tri.  I never had a huge appetite before I got pregnant with my first so it was the first time I experienced the phenomenon of NEVER FEELING FULL.  It was so weird, no matter how much I ate I never felt completely full!  But I agree with others, eat if you are hungry!  Try to make most of your choices healthy ones and give into the cravings occasionally.  Try eating protein with each meal/snack, it *might* keep you full longer :)

  • Make sure you are eating foods that keep you fuller longer. Snack on fruits and veggies so you aren't eating lots of unhealthy stuff and try to eat 6 times a day. I'm starving too, when I'm not nauseous
  • Im in the same boat. I feel like as soon as I eat a meal or a snack, I am hungry again shortly after. Im just trying to eat healthy snacks throughout the day so my excessive snacking doesnt cause a ton of weight gain. Im also trying to eat snacks with more protein in them.

  • I am starving and nauseous all at once!!! So frustrating. My stomach is growling but thinking about what to eat makes me literally gag. It's a really weird feeling combo.
  • I have legitimate hunger pangs in between meals and around bed time. If I don't eat I just get nauseous, so like pp trying to just choose healthy snacks and include some protein. Apples or bananas with a nut butter, crackers with cheese, veggies with dip etc. while baby doesn't consume a lot of calories it does take calories to build a placenta, pump additional blood and grow your uterus. If you are already an active person that means you need to replenish. Stick to healthy snacks wh e you are hungry and it will all work itself out.
  • I told my SO that I now know how our dog feels... Hungry all the time!

This is me. I'm only nauseous if I'm not eating enough and it's NEVER enough. Fruits and veggies aren't cutting it either. I need both protein and carbs or the hunger doesn't cease. My stomach growls so loud people in my office comment. However, this is how I was with DD and by the 2nd trimester I was back to normal with complete weight gain around 29lbs.
  • I'm hungry all the time as well... But the smell of food or eating anything makes me sick! I eat a lot of toast and chicken broth and just feel bad because I know it isn't the healthiest options and it is so different that how I used to eat. Instead of yogurt and fruit it's an English muffin for breakfast and no more salads for lunch! I can't wait to get back on track with my eating habits but I guess as long as I'm keeping stuff down for the most part that's what matters!!

I know exactly how you feel. It's infuriating. I don't want to eat because everything sounds awful but my stomach won't stop demanding more food.
