Surgery while pregnant

I was wondering if anyone else had surgery while they were pregnant? I had my gallbladder removed while I was pregnant. Doctors did a pregnancy test and I guess I was too early on to detect that I was actually 2 weeks along. This is my biggest worry with being on morphine and codeine as I recovered and still didn't know. I didn't find out I was pregs till I was 7 weeks! I'm hoping my baby is okay, I don't get an ultrasound till at least 10 weeks and I'm 9weeks 2 days now. The suspense is killing me!

    I believe morphine and codeine are safe during pregnancy. Fingers crossed for a healthy baby. Keep us informed.

    I had a biopsy when I didn't know I'm pregnant. It requires anesthesia. I was scared when I know I am pregnant. My ob assured me that it's fine. Hope this helps.

    FX everything is ok for you. I do know that you don't share a bloodstream with the baby until 6 weeks, so at 2 weeks, everything should be fine. Good luck, keep us posted

    Pain meds like that are fine during pregnancy if they're used for a short amount of time. Long term use, if unavoidable, is also okay, but could lead to dependency in the infant and other problems. Leaving your gallbladder in could have led to a bunch of other complications you would have had to deal with this pregnancy including being on meds for the pain, infections, etc for an even longer time period. Hopefully everything on your ultrasound will look great and you can relax and not dwell on it! Keep us updated once you go!

    I believe morphine is sometimes given during labor. Although who knows if that is similar medically in terms of dose and route and so on.

    Baby should be fine, like everyone has said, everything was short term!! T&P for a healthy ultrasound!!

    I know someone who had their appendix removed when she was maybe 4 or 5 months pregnant. She and baby both turned out fine.

    Hi there
    I had shoulder surgery and then found out a week and half later I was preg! Was very worried I am 14 weeks now and everything looking good so far! My OB said it was fine. How are you going?
