First time pregnant, can't find nasal bone - freaking out!

I went for my 18 week ultrasound, everything came back perfect, except not being able to find the nasal bone. I'm told this increases my chance for my baby to have DS. I go to a specialist for more testing in a week, but the wait is killing me! The previous tests came back negative for DS. Anyone have any info on this kind of situation?

  • Ultrasounds are inaccurate or if you had it done at 20 weeks it may have been different. We had a scare at 18 weeks and were sent to the children's hospital for an MRI that turned out normal. We went back to our doctor for a repeat ultrasound at 20 weeks and babies develop so quickly that by then even our doctor got a better picture. I know it's scary, though and I'm so sorry. You should be reassured after you meet with the specialist, though.

  • Thank you plainjane, we're all hoping that's the case here. We find out Tuesday. No mother hopes for anything less than a perfect baby. I'm happy your scare was just that, just a scare.
