January 2016 Moms

feeling upset..

I was due dec 25 for the longest time. today I was 19 weeks and 5 days, almost 20 weeks.
went for my '20 week' ultrasound today (where I live it's the only one you get) and found out it's a boy, so happy. also found out he was measuring smaller then almost 20 weeks, in fact I was just 18 weeks 1 day.
my friend keeps saying it's not a big deal and no it isn't, she isn't pregnant! it's a big deal to me because it's like stepping back 2 weeks basically.
can anyone understand why I'm a little upset?????
or am I just crazy??? haha

Re: feeling upset..

  • I could understand the frustration of feeling you have to two those weeks over again. But feel excited you have a baby who's healthy :) and welcome!!

  • I haven't had the same experience, but I think I can't understand a bit! I mean, every week seems so important! Just keep in mind that your due date is truly just an estimation. Who knows maybe he will be early!

I wouldn't dwell on it. My date was set back almost a couple weeks too. You're as pregnant as you are, whatever that is, and that wasn't changed by a machine. No use getting upset over something you can't control!
  • I would look at all the positives

    1) you're now due at the beginning of the month and that's always fun
    2) you can hopefully celebrate Christmas without going into labor
    3) once the holidays arrive you'll be glad for the extra time
  • My date was set back a week after my first ultrasound in the beginning too.  Try to realize that of all things an ultrasound can discover, the dates being a little off is one of the best case scenarios. Everything is developing as it should and now you know you have a little boy headed your way!
  • Count your blessings on your healthy little boy. 2wks in the grand scheme of things is nothing. You may still deliver on your old due date.

  • Your original EDD was based on your LMP (I'm guessing) and that's based on an exact 14 day ovulation date. Obviously, you ovulated later than expected. No big deal. :)
I'm sure it sucks to basically feel like you're in a time loop and have to redo those two weeks, but look at the bright side: you're at the beginning of the month now and you get to experience things before most others on the board. There was another gal recently that came from December, I forget her user name, but she may be able to help you with what you're feeling since she's been through exactly this.
    P.S. welcome to Jan16!
  • My doctor doesn't sweat due dates too much. Her philosophy is it's more of a birth month. You may still have a Christmas baby, or he may be a New Year's one!

  • I can understand all the way at my first u/s they said I was 12 weeks & 2 days then three weeks later I was told at an appointment I was 11 weeks which if still based off LMP it would've been 15 but I know how it feels like time goes back and you wonder why you think you've done something wrong to slow baby's development or something or at least for me because they didn't explain to me until my next appointment which was FOUR WEEK later. But after hearing baby's heart and knowing he/she is fine and we just have a new due date there's really nothing I can do about it. I'm 18w & 4d today though. It'd be funny at my anatomy scan they switch back to my old due date which I'm secretly wishing but not banking on it. Alls well mama I'll keep you in my prayers.
  • I don't know if this helps, but I had a dating ultrasound because I have irregular periods. My doc put me at 6 weeks with a due date of Dec. 4th.

When I had my anatomy scan at 18 weeks, the tech said the baby was measuring at 20 weeks. So I thought "awesome, I'm due earlier!" But when I went to the doctor, she said she wasn't changing my due date because measuring large at a certain point doesn't really mean much. You can only tell you due date with any "certainty" in those early months because all babies develop pretty much the same at that point. After awhile, there's a greater variance in size from baby to baby and dating based on the size is less accurate.

    Hope that helps.
