Lump in Belly...sounds silly

Hey Mamas!

I'm 12 wks, 4 days pregnant with twins (first pregnancy). we went yesterday for our 12 week ultrasound and everything was perfectly healthy. I woke up this morning and felt my tummy and there was a VERY noticeable hard lump in my belly. I went to the bathroom and passed gas and it definitely got smaller, but there was still a hard place right where my uterus is. I know this sounds so ridiculous (I don't think it's the babies because I've never felt something like this before). I called my nurse and she said it's probably just gas and to let them know if it gets bigger, but I'm still worried. there's zero pain. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Re: Lump in Belly...sounds silly

  • Obviously I'm not a doctor but right before my 12 week appointment I noticed a harder "lump" about halfway between my belly button and pubic bone. Come to find out at my appointment which was on 12w6d it was my uterus poking out. The doctor commented on it as soon as I laid down and it's right where he put the Doppler to get the hb.

  • As pp stated, I'm not a doctor. But it could be your uterus and it may have been contracting a bit which will make it harder. I find in the morning if I have a full bladder or gas my uterus will contract and harden. It feels like the top of a strange hard ball. The further on we get the more you'll experience it and their called Braxton Hicks contractions. They can be super weird! I had them my ENTIRE pregnancy last time and they drove me a bit crazy.
  • phew! thanks bredoll! I wondered if that might also be what it was (especially with twins)...but that seemed far fetched since they're both so little. but that does make me feel a little better.
  • I'm 11w4d with my second baby. For the past few days I've woken up (with a full bladder) and been able to see my uterus popping out a bit on one side. I had the same thing happen with my first babe around this time too. I can only really see it first thing in the morning while laying on my back before I go pee.

  • Okay so maybe this is a dumb question - Is your uterus in front of your bladder? So like when it's full it pushes your uterus out?

I'm 13 wks and can't feel my uterus ... But maybe I don't know what I'm supposed to be feeling?
  • I have had this exact same thing happen to me for the last few mornings. It's a bump on the middle left-hand side. As soon as I go for my first pee it goes away. 13w3d.

I'm pretty sure the uterus is slightly behind and on top of the bladder. Which makes the later months extra fun! :)
