I keep hearing/reading about everyone getting ultrasounds and it makes me worry about my prenatal care. I had one ultrasound around 10 weeks and my last was at 18 weeks. During the last I asked when my next would be and was told I wouldn't be getting another one unless there were some complications. Based on others experiences, is that normal?? I know I can pay to have one but I just worry... People are mentioning the baby's weight/measurements based on US but this hasn't been a conversation during my appointments at all! I'm 30w4d. My OB told me she would start "checking the poisition" of the baby during my next appointment and thereafter... But that's all! She takes out the tape measure and measures my uterus and then listens to the heart beat and that's what my appointments consist of (and me asking questions of course). Does this seem normal?? Am I only concerned because I'm a FTM and feel left in the dark?!
Re: Ultrasounds..?
My Dr doesn't even formally measure my belly. Just feels for the fundal height, checks bp, checks my weight, checks baby's heartbeat and sends me on my way.
Plus, as @smlowe9311 said, weight measurements are super duper inaccurate in third trimester. In fact, inaccurate measures often lead to unnecessary inductions or c-sections.

As nice as it is to see our little bundle of joy - sometimes it creates more anxiety for me because they're checking with so much detail. (I guess ignorance is bliss sometimes) thankfully, all is going as well as it possibly could! & I have to remind myself that technology is a beautiful thing.
But to add to the "high risk" factor - I see a team of doctors (3 different: OB, MFM & endocrinologist) monthly, soon bi weekly, then weekly til we deliver -- which means I will live at the doc office / hospital. (Which gives me anxiety!)
Sending you love & wishes for a healthy & quick rest of your pregnancy!! ❤️
We did pay like $350 out of pocket for each ultrasound (we're also at a pricier hospital) so you certainly wouldn't want extra ones if money was an issue. We have "Womb with a View" clinic where women can go pay ~$100-$200 out of pocket just to see their baby, maybe get the cooler ultrasound, videos, etc. My cousin is 38 weeks and she goes there a lot. Remember that our parent's generation didn't have ultrasounds at all unless there were concerns about baby. My mom only saw 1 of her 4 daughters on an ultrasound (because she measured small)
So basically- it is normal to have 1 and the others are optional.
