Severe Vaginal Itching/ Swelling.

Hello mommies. I'm currently 17w 4d pregnant. Just last week I had a slight itch and now it's turned into plan severe itchiness down there. Every time I go pee , I rub down there like crazy , then get stuck with a burning sensation since I rubbed so hard. Any of you experience this? I had been tested and was all clear and good to go. I've tried. Asking my nurse but she has yet to return my call. It's bad enough to where I almost just wanna go to the er to make sure my damn vagina is okay... Thoughts????

Is there an urgent care near you? Usually they cost a lot less than a trip to the er. They checked for yeast infection and everything? Supposedly, pregnant women are more prone to those. And those symptoms sure sound yeast infectiony to me, but I'm no doc. Good luck!

  • There is! It hurts so bad and is very uncomfortable. Would you go now or wait until tomorrow? I may have to if I can't sleep. I can't go another night not sleeping because of this type of pain. Thanks!
  • I believe they checked for STDs and uti. And that may be it. I'm not too sure.
  • It kind of sounds like a UTI with the burning with peeing. I would definitely try to get in to see someone because I can only imagine how miserable you feel. Poor thing! In the mean time, drink lots of water! Good luck! Keep us posted.
  • Yeast infection can cause the painful/burning urination too. Some stores will carry a product with their yeast infection treatments (sorry I didn't mention it earlier, I seriously just remembered it!) called Azo Yeast. It's a test for a yeast infection. After that, I'm not sure which OTC treatments are OK during pregnancy, but that's a Google search away if you get a positive result.
  • OK, so I'm going to correct myself now. Evidently they no longer market a test by that name, only a treatment. Boo. I still think yeast infection is your most likely culprit, but a doc may be your only option to get diagnosed for sure.
  • I agree sounds like yeast infection. It could be burning when you pee due to the irritation. Call your ob and they will prescribe you something, I wouldn't buy anything OTC while pregnant just to be safe.

  • Go to the dr-now!! Urinary tract infections and yeast infections can create big complications rapidly during pregnancy. Good luck and let us know how you go!
  • Thanks ladies! I'm fixing to go to Urgent care right now and also have an appt at 0800 tomorrow. I can't wait another day. Hurts too bad. I will let you all know !
  • Let us know what they say. I also have been itchier than normal though not as bad as yours (yet). I'd be interested in the treatment.

FWIW, my doc said that things absorbed through the skin don't go into your blood stream (read: straight to the baby) so it's unlikely a topical cream would be bad for baby. She told me this when I asked about hydrocortisone.

  • Sounds like a yeast infection to me. As far as I know, yeast infections aren't a big deal for the baby, but UTIs can be. I'm on yeast infection number 4 while pregnant. I'm 18 weeks. It's horrible. I feel your pain, err, itch.
  • You can use monistat 7 which is safe for baby! Really helped me!
  • Hello!!!! Me and Little man are fine! A normal and curable yeast infection is what it is. A great heartbeat of 158 and active as ever. :) thanks for all the responses! Lined up right with your experiences and what my doc said!
