Cervix self check

I'm sorry but who TF is checking their own cervix? I was looking up info on dilation, and instructions on how to check dilation myself popped up! Who is doing this? Lol! No judgements here I'm just shocked that you can check yourself and that someone might actually do it!!! Have you guys done this?

  • No way, I would be worried about infection/bacteria..I'll leave it to the doctors when necessary.
  • I can't even reach that area let alone check my cervix.

  • Lol does my title post not make sense? I wasn't sure how to word it!
  • I did it when ttc but now that I'm pregnant I don't want to risk introducing bacteria.

  • I know what my cervix felt like before my first because I had an IUD and was supposed to check it every month to make sure it was still in place. After my son was born I stayed the hell out of there because I was freaked out by the idea of it being different. Right now I'm 38+4 and can barely wipe after I pee, much less touch my cervix.

On another note I was doing a Google search and was horrified when it auto completed to "how to break your own water"
  • You all are funny! It said you are to sit on the toilet and do it for those wondering how you would reach it! Yea but bacteria and infection is reason enough for me NOT to do it myself, especially being GBS +
  • I needed this laugh, thank you all! =))
And now, I need to pee!

  • I can't even wipe after I pee let alone check for dialation.

    Oh, the accuracy.
  • Yeah. No. No self checking if anything for me.

I do it squatting in the shower, my midwife said it was fine to do with clean hands. (You have sex and dont get an infection so why would it be more of a risk my midwife said when I asked.). I dont stick my finger in my cervix I just feel the outside I am about a 2 right now at 37+1 weeks. STM.

I can also feel behind my cervix baby's girls head it's really neat.

    @-)
  • i'm fine with my doc checking me, hell i can even avoid that. I don't care where i am just as long as he doesn't stay in there forever
  • Kat+1 if I squatted in the shower (or anywhere) I would not be getting up! Lol

    This^^
  • I was dilated to a one at 36 weeks. My doctor told me I could check myself if I was curious about how much I was dilating. She said to just do it slowly and clean under my nails and a few more details before I attempted. She made it seem like not a big deal, so I did. I was curious after learning I could check myself.
  • It's no big deal prior to water breaking. It's a rather large deal to have cervix checks after your water breaks because the risk of infection is much larger. Had I known this with my first I wouldn't have let the nurses check me at all when I was admitted or after getting to my room.
