DMER?

I have a rush of extreme anxiety at the beginning of every breastfeeding session. It last for a few seconds and then vanishes. I thought that I was nuts but asked my doctor about it. She suggested that i may have DMER(Dysphoric Milk Ejection Reflex). I do not think that I have a severe enough case to require medication but it is a very uncomfortable feeling, though short-lived. Anyone going through this? Suggestions on how to deal with it?

Re: DMER?

  • Yup! I posted some info on this not too long ago. My lactation consultant suggested fish oil supliments. Its a crappy feeling, I'm sorry you are going through this.

  • I got that feeling the whole time I breastfed, I always dreaded doing it which sucks because I want to enjoy that time with my baby. I started to pump and bottle feed, I obviously still feel bad when I pump but at least I can enjoy feeding my baby.
  • Thanks ladies! And I will definitely try the fish oil and give it a little time before I decide to stop breastfeeding. Our bodies are so freaking weird!
