So angry

My husband and I took our 1 week old son to his first doctor's appointment today. We chose to go to our regular family practitioner. First off he tells me I'm breastfeeding my son too often and tells me it should just be 15 minutes on each breast. Then gets on to me for bed sharing. Then when he examines him he retracted my uncircumcised son's foreskin. There was no reason to do that and now I'm worried his penis is damaged. He didn't even give us a warning he was going to do it. My husband saw he was doing it and said, "I didn't think you were supposed to do that." His reply was, "well you just do it the first time to see." See what!? We will not be taking him back there. I'm just so scared now that he will get an infection. I can't stop thinking about it.

  • I am very sorry for your bad experience. That sounds terribly frustrating.. I would take him to a real pediatrician to get it checked out and make sure everything is okay. T&P. >:D<

  • We definitely need to find someone else! Thank you @erinnlou
  • Some babies are lazy eaters and it takes longer for them to get what they need outta your boobs!
I don't have a time limit on my son. When he is done he pops off or if he gets lazy I rub his cheek and he'll start up again. I only pop him off if he's fallen asleep.
  • Yea I would be livid!
  • @ashleytiff exactly! Sometimes he falls asleep and I don't hurry him along. He uses me as a pacifier, which La Leche League says is totally fine. @zmombie I am! If I didn't know better I wouldn't know that I have to take care of it different now and watch for signs of infection. I know it's not the norm to not circumcise, so I'm wondering if he has ever even taken care of a baby with an uncircumcised one. I'm just sick with worry now.
  • Gee, when did this guy get his license??? Glad our family practitioner is competent!

My son gets to eat as long as he wants, but I try not to let him use me as a pacifier too often.

  • Not cool at all. I'm sure it will be ok though. You are doing the right thing by being informed about how to handle your kiddo and making a switch. Good luck!
  • I'm sorry your worrying. I don't blame you. Can you report him to someone maybe? And try not to worry to much, it's unlikely that he will get an infection from one time.. But keep an eye on it.
