I'm not good with the healthy eating. Healthy food just doesn't appeal to me at all. But now that I'm Pregnant I know I have to start eating better. What do you ladies recommend?
I agree with the cooking/eating at home! That makes things so much healthier!
Maybe search the web for recipes for your favorite dishes, just healthified. There are so many good recipes out there for fast food, comfort food, etc. that you can make healthier. Pinterest is a good place to find recipes - healthy and not healthy, so just make sure you search for the healthy ones!
Make sure you don't always go for "low fat" "low calorie" options. Artificial fillers are usually substituted in those options to make it still taste good. You want to know what is in your food so look for few ingredients end ones you can pronounce.
I just finished doing the 21 day fix (3 days before the end I got my BFP) and it was really good about helping me change my eating habits and portion control. I gained more than I wanted with my first and didn't lost any of the pregnancy weight so I really want to have better habits this time. I really love the chopped salad kits from the grocery store. One salad package will last me two lunches. I add some grilled chicken to it and it's delicious!
@saraeric Wouldn't you know I started the 21 day fix 2 days before my positive test, hah! But I agree on it helping with the portion control and balacong the right foods. I am loosely following it since finding out we're pregnant, but making sure I eat from the list of whole, healthy, vitamin packed foods is awesome. And you are rigtht, you can make it super easy too. Healthy doesn't have to mean complicated. Keeping it simple helps me a lot.

That's too funny! I was SO close to finishing! Definitely will be doing the program again once the baby comes. I really liked *most* of the workouts so I think I'm going to keep up trying to do those (minus the cardio ones...those are awful!). I'm also planning on loosely following the program as well to help keep my weight gain in check.
Are you ladies doing the 21 day fix while pregnant? My sister and I were just looking to start that together when I found out I was pregnant! Is it something you can do while pregnant?
@leahcobb7 Autumn did an faq video on her youtube chanel and mentioned it's safe for pregnancy but as usual check your dr. It definately doesn't hurt to be using the program to eat healtheir, just skip on the items we shouldn't eat whole pregnant and probably adjust with extra calories for the baby depending on the calculations in the book for maintaining. I'm going to be doing that during my pregnancy (as much as I can, haha, sometimes the ice cream looks too good) to try and eat healthier too.
@leahcobb7 congratulations! The 21 day fix is a great idea and perfect to instill some extra good eating habits for the pea pod. I started the whole 30 but it is recommended talking to your health care provider about any modifications that may need to be done to make sure babe and yourself are healthiest. I know I have anemia so There were certain parts of the whole 30 that weren't best for being pregnant, but! Modifying is always an option! Xoxoxo
@leahcobb7 I have personally never done the 21 day fix, but I've seen women 6 months+ complete it on instagram! Definitely talk to your doctor, but I think it would be fine. You may have to do some modifications to the workouts, but my thought on it is if it feels good, do it.
Change your mindset about the healthy food. Tell yourself you're exploring new foods. Eating healthy can be easy as long as you don't make it feel like a punishment. Don't tell yourself, for example, you can't have pizza. Instead you can have pizza, but maybe make it at home with more fresh veggies and chicken.
That's what I do. I was raised on Dr. Pepper and fried chicken. I won't drink the soda, but I will fry chicken and other food. I just do it sparingly and make sure it's served with roasted veggies and salads.
@leahcobb7 I had just started the 21 day fix a few days before finding out we are pregnant. I talked to my coach and read up on it, just finishing my first 21 days this week. I have modified a couple exercises and will likely stick with the videos and modifications as much as possible during pregnancy. For eating, I am (and will) pretty much sticking to the plan, but allow myself grace. If my snack planned was greek yogurt but that sounds revolting, I'll eat something else even if it's cheese and I already had my blue container for the day. The point isn't weight loss for me any more, but healthy eating, good strength exercises, and a healthy pregnancy. Totally doable!! If you are looking at shakeology, I decided not to since I am taking a prenatal and didn't want that much vitamin A. But definitely check with your doctor too.
After DD was born (DH is a healthy eater & brought me on board) I have replaced any potato with veggies. Whether it be steamed broccoli or cauliflower, corn on the cob (I LOVE)- grilling veggies (peppers, red onion, squash, zucchini etc). I've grown to love eating this way and don't miss my old ways. Some snacks include grapes, watermelon, nuts- if I do have chips I have baked lays, cheese sticks, Greek yogurt. Also if we do eat out-we do Taco Bell a lot and I get their Fresco Menu- so if you do eat out- just try picking a healthier option.
I'm also not the healthiest eater, I love my sweets and carbs. But you may find your preferences change while pregnant and things that once appealed to you you can no longer stand or vice versa. What I did was to make sure my core meals were healthy - Greek yogurt, fruit, eggs, whole grains, lean meats, and veggies when I could stand them. But I allowed myself to indulge occasionally too. Just listen to your body and do what feels right.

@leahcobb7 you can definitely do the 21 Day fix while pregnant! I'm not a health professional and it definitely depends on your fitness level but your fitness routine should not change at all in the first trimester. Think Neolithic women... Hunting gathering, working to stay alive all while pregnant. We are no different and our bodies are made to do this!! The weight gain will vary for every woman but this is my 3rd pregnancy and I acted like I had some form of ailment with the first one, I used it as an excuse to be lazy, to eat everything I wanted in any quantity and the weight took 3 years to come off. It's not necessary, it's not healthy and it's not worth it. I plan to work just as hard as long as I can and when I can't any more do all I CAN do. I am currently doin a third round of 21 Day fix EXTREME! ❤️
Pinterest is a great place to find yummy healthy recipes. My diet is basically no processed food, so I eat a lot of lean meat and fresh veggies and snack on fruit, string cheese and yogurt. my advice is to find some recipes to try, and also look for healthier ways to prepare your favorites, like use bread crumbs and bake chicken, instead of frying. Or baking potatoe wedges instead of frying. Also dont buy packaged junk food, like chips or cookies, if its not in your house you wont be tempted to eat it. Last bit of advice, treat yourself every once in a while
