Bladder infection?

Hope all is well. I need some advice, or just positivity! I am 11 weeks today and I've lost 8 pounds in two weeks. I went in today because nothing was staying down, or helping. They found blood and ketones in my urine, and believe I have s bladder infection. They won't prescribe Macrobid quite yet because he said I can't keep it down, and he just suspects it being a bladder infection. I go back Thursday.

They also could not find a heartbeat with the Doppler. We had seen the heartbeat two weeks ago on our ultrasound. I know it's still early for it to pick up on Doppler, but anyone been through this? When did you finally hear it on doppler? I have US in two weeks because of a SH bleed, but I am scared now.

Re: Bladder infection?

  • No experience with it here. If No macrobid id say stay hydrated as much as possible. Cranberry juice if you're able to (sans sugar).
Sending positive thoughts your way. Good luck on your appt Thursday!

  • I am surprised that your doc didn't order another ultrasound after they couldn't hear the heartbeat. Usually being 11 weeks means your uterus has moved up out of your pelvic girdle enough that the doppler picks it up just fine. I heard the HB on the doppler at 9 weeks for the first time, but it was also my first appointment lol.

    T&P's that everything is fine

  • At my 12 week appointment my doctor couldn't find the heartbeat on the Doppler. When he pulled out the ultrasound machine he eventually found it, the fetus was sitting a lot lower from where he originally thought it was. So it is possible..

  • Thank you everyone. Feeling a bit better, finally! Thank you for the reassurance with the FHR and Doppler! I hope we are able to hear it Thursday. If not, it'll be a long wait until the 17th, my next ultrasound! Thanks again!
  • Do you have a friend with an at home doppler you could borrow? Or could you buy or hire one? I know they're not meant to be used often, so I restrict myself to using mine only when I get worried about whether the baby is okay. I found the HB for the first time a few days ago, but it took quite a long while. I'm thinking if you can borrow one, you will have a bit more time and patience to spend a while looking for it? Good luck, I hope the baby is just being elusive. :)

  • If you can stomach it, try taking probiotics or eating plain unsweetened yogurt a few times a day to help treat the bladder infection. Also, drinking lots of water, avoiding sugar and simple carbs can really help.

  • And, of course, good luck! They weren't able to hear our baby's heartbeat on a Doppler at 10 weeks. But, everything was ok at our NT ultrasound 2 1/2 weeks later. They just said it was too early.

  • Well, out of my 3 pregnancies, this one and my second have been plagued with recurrent UTIs.

I never get UTIs when I am not pregnant!  And these have not been making me hurt when I pee, either.  I feel like I have to go frequently and when I get one, I feel fatigued and generally a little yucky but aside from that, they have found them just because of my pee tests at appointments.  I took Amoxicillin in July and apparently it did not get rid of it because I had a UTI at last week's appointment too and now I am taking Macrobid.

BOOOOOO!  I would ask for them to hurry up and Rx the meds because it is really not good to have a UTI while pregnant.  It can lead to preterm labor.
