NICU check-in 8/3

Hey Ladies,

Wondering how the other NICU moms are hanging in there. As well as your LO's.

How long have you been in there? Do you have an idea of when baby can come home?

Are you pumping? Hows that going?

Whats been you biggest hurdle so far?

Any advice you would give to another NICU mom?

Whats your favorite pass time while visiting your LO?

  • How long have you been in there? Do you have an idea of when baby can come home?

5 days in, already seems like forever. No idea of when DS will be able to come home :(

Are you pumping? Hows that going?

Yes - its pretty intense, 3hr intervals are coming quicker and quicker.

Whats been you biggest hurdle so far?
Its been a real rollercoaster , he will pass one test and then a new symptom will start. We still have more questions than answers and tons of maybes.

Any advice you would give to another NICU mom?

A support system is a must! Even if its just the social worker they provide. Take everyday one at a time

I havent found one other than my phone, up for suggestions.

This is day 12. We know that once she eats all on her own We will take out the feeding tube and then we stop have 24-48 hours. So, not soon.

Are you pumping? Hows that going?
I agree, 3 hours comes really quickly!! Its ruling my life right now!!

Whats been you biggest hurdle so far?
Breathing was probably the biggest and scariest, but feeding may take longer to resolve. We are getting an ultrasound on her heart tomorrow, but DH couldn't remember what the Dr said he heard that would make this necessary. Ugh, I could punch him in the eats since he never used them anyway.hopefully we don't have a new issue.

It's a rollercoaster. Expect advances, but also steps backward. It's all part of the process and expected.

Yesterday I found a lactation cookie recipe on pintrist...

This is only going on day 2 for this mama. I was running a fever during labor so as long as all the cultures come back negative for infection baby will be getting discharged with me tomorrow morning.

Are you pumping? Hows that going?

Alternating between pumping and breastfeeding which isn't bad since I'm still in the hospital.

Whats been your biggest hurdle so far?

Trying to get down to the NICU every three hours since I'm on IV antibiotics and they almost perfectly line up with when I need to be down there for his feeding times. It's really frustrating to leave him there for hours without seeing him.

Any advice you would give to another NICU mom?

No advice to give yet, I'm still a newbie to this!!

Whats your favorite pass time while visiting your LO?

All I can do is snuggle his little face and kiss every inch of skin showing haha

Feeding was our biggest obstacle in the NICU. I honestly felt like she was never going to get the hang of it enough to get the tube out, but they told me that usually out of the blue babies just figure out how to take all of their feeds, and it's true! One day my daughter needed about 40% of her feeds through her tube, then all of a sudden the next day she was taking all of it by bottle and didn't need the tube after that. Just to give you some hope!
  • Thank you @lrichhx05
She took 2 full bottles but then backed off again. Plus we only try every other feeding so she doesn't tire out. It feels like we will be here forever!
