Does anyone know if dyeing hair or doing your nails is safe for pregnancy? I feel like I need a bit of a change right now but worried it will hurt the baby somehow.
Doing nails is definitely fine. You would need to inhale so so much of those chemicals for them to be potentially harmful (like working every day in a salon with poor ventilation). Hair dying on the other hand is a bit controversial. Most people would say it's fine and lots of moms do it, but some believe the dye can sink in to your scalp and impact the baby. I'm not really sure what I believe but I am staying away from dyeing while pregnant. I get my nails done all the time though!
I am a nail tech and many women in my industry (including me) work through their pregnancies and their babies are fine. I know many hair dressers who do the same thing. I think it's fine!
Bleaching is not safe during pregnancy, but you can dye as long as you are in a well ventilated room. Nails are also fine, i waited till i reached my second tri to get mine done again. Only thing I've become nervous about is the conflicting answers on foot massages while getting pedicures during pregnancy. Safe or no?
Look, do what you are comfortable with but women who work in salons come into contact with those chemicals daily , bleach and all, and have heathy babies. As a hairdresser myself I'm still getting my nails and hair done, and working day in day out, and my exposure is greater than any clients!
Yes to both, but use your brain ya know? Sketchy little back alley salon? No thanks. Clean, reputable place with windows for ventilation and sterile equipment? Absolutely.
And the foot massage issue is baloney. I promise, having a nail tech give you the heavenly 15 minute hot stone massage is not going to cause you to go into preterm labor. Treat yoself! You deserve it.
