Baby bump questions

Hello!

I was wondering if your height has any influence on how soon you start showing. I noticed that at around 10 weeks the usual dip that I had right above my pubic bone was replaced by a solid roundish mound. And today at exactly 12 weeks someone commented that I was starting to show. I am 5ft tall and I would say I am probably equal amounts leg and torso. I started my pregnancy out with maybe 5 extra pounds that always stayed around the front part of my belly but during the 2nd month I lost about 4 pounds and I am just now starting to gain weight again. Is anyone else in a similar position? A friend of mine didn't start showing till she was about 15 weeks along but she is at least 5'6" and she too had a little extra weight on her.

Thank you!

Body type, genetics, etc all influence when you will start showing.

No one can predict exactly when any person will show.

You could have exactly the same body type as your friend and she could show 5 weeks before you.

    All of this.
  • What PP's said is true but FWIW I am 5'1 with a shortish or about equal torso and I was showing 100% by 15 weeks with DS. This time around I am 11 weeks and getting comments from multiple strangers on the bump.

  • Thank you! I am just curious cause I see pictures online of women at about 12 weeks and they have this teeny little bump and I had that before I was pregnant so now I can't tell if what I have is left over fluffiness from before the pregnancy or an actual baby bump. If I suck everything in the little bump stays but it always has. I will take a pic and post to see what you lovely ladies think.

  • I'm 5'0" with a very short torso I'm not thin, but not terribly overweight either. I grew out of my non-maternity clothes at around 11 weeks with my first pregnancy and around 10 weeks with my second. I'm going to be 12 weeks tomorrow and people have been stopping me in the hallways at work to ask me if I'm pregnant, so I guess I must look pretty big.
  • I finally was able to get a pic! My bump at 12 weeks 3 days.
  • Has nothing to do with it. I'm 5'1 and have a small frame. I didn't show with my first three until after 6 months. I'm 3 months today with my fourth and don't have any sign of a bump. Plus every pregnancy is different as well.
  • I'm due Feb 1, I'm 5'0" and small framed, and not showing yet.

I'm 5'8" and 10 weeks along, nothing yet.
  • I am 5'3 small framed weight 125. I am 11 weeks and definitely have a bump already. With my last pregnancy I didn't show until 17 weeks. So I popped way sooner with baby #2. & I was in a bikini memorial day weekend on a camping trip!

  • Im almost 12 weeks and 5'6" with a short torso. I look no different now than I did before I was pregnant. Haven't gained even one pound. I'm not complaining though, I would like a little more time out of the maternity wear! And would also like to not have to buy maternity clothes for two different seasons.
  • Can someone please define showing? Do you mean showing as in an obvious bump in your clothes where it's obvious you're pregnant? Or does showing mean that you have a bit of a bump bit you still fit in your normal clothes and you get away with no one knowing? I have doubts that there is no change to your bodies at this point. Sorry I don't buy it.

  • I think showing means that someone who doesn't know you, would look at you and know you're pregnant. Like people are standing up for you on the train to offer their seat.
If that's the case at 12-14 weeks, then that's really bizarre.
I think you can"show" in the sense your shape is changing and you and your husband or close friends can see it. But, strangers prob can't tell until 6-7 months from what I've heard.

  • Due 2/1 and NADA!
    Still in regular clothes.

I'm sure everyone is different and every pregnancy is different.
  • I have a teenie bump only I can really notice I think but at times with bloating I'm huge! I'm trying not to have anyone notice at work but if I have a bloating episode in certain clothes I look very pregnant! I've taken to wearing long floaty scarves down to my stomach to distract attention, so far think it's working ok. I'm 10weeks 6days slim built and usually have a flat stomach, there's definitely changes afoot down there!
  • I'll be 12 weeks and there is a noticable change to my belly. I am short waisted and was pretty slim in the waist before. My stomach is the last place I gain weight. People who know me could tell...others prob just think I'm getting fat. I've been trying to hide it until I'm ready to publicly announce.

For the naysayers, there is a definately a difference for most when it's not your first. This will be my third. I am showing as much as when I was 5-6 months with my first. I'm also 16 years older so that could come into play too.
  • I didn't start noticing showing with my first until 6-7 months. I lost all but about 5lbs from my first pregnancy. My bloat is definitely pushing out more than my first pregnancy but that is probably just because I'm not in nearly as good of shape as I was in when I got pregnant with my daughter. So I'm not showing my any means yet but I'm for sure feeling fatter.

  • I think it just really depends on the pregnancy and baby. I'm 5'2" with a short torso. I didn't start showing with my first until probably 5 months. With my second I was sick and lost around 10 lbs in first tri so the bloat was more obvious. I feel like I showed early. But this time, I had some bloat early on but now at 13 weeks it's really nothing. It will be interesting to see what happens. Even though I've lost a few lbs my hips have already gotten bigger... annoying.

  • I'm Only 5'2" and 12wks with my first. Close friends and family have commented on my very small but noticeable bump. Strangers would have no clue. I am still in normal clothes and haven't gained any weight, but my hips are slightly wider and my boobs are defo bigger. This morning while laying down I really saw my little bump poking out! And it was HARD! But it went down a bit after getting up and moving around. :(
  • I'm 5'0 and 12w5d, but I was helping a girl the other day who had a dead battery and it was pretty hot out - she said - "I feel so bad that you're out here in this heat helping me when you're pregnant!" I hadn't mentioned it before and she didn't ask if I was, she just assumed so I must be pretty big.
  • I am showing quicker with my 4th, but can telk it's definitely still bloat. It's not hard like a baby belly, but it still feels impossible to button jeans.

  • I'm showing a little, bloated a lot, and super depressed at having gained 10 pounds in my first trimester. I feel enormous. I'm so grateful that I'm a teacher, and that I haven't had to deal with being under the microscope at work while my body's been changing so much. I'm nervous about my overall weight gain having put on so much so fast. So yeah, I'm "showing" as much on my thighs and hips as I am on my belly. :(
  • It's not bizzare. I had strangers commenting this time around by 10 or 11 weeks and at nearly 14 weeks I'm definitely showing. Everyone's bodies are different and I'm getting kind of offended by all this bump shaming! I feel like because everyone is so anti early bumps I find myself feeling sad when people make comments but I know I should be proud.

The truth is I'm probably just really jealous of your bump. I can't wait for one! I'm really sorry. Don't feel bad- like you said, everyone's bodies are different and it's especially different if you're a second-time mom.
You are growing a healthy baby- damn right you should be proud. I'm sorry :(

I'm only 11 weeks and I walked into thyme maternity last week and I was looking around and the cashier asked me how far along I was and I told her. Her response "are you having twins or triplets in there?" Eff you woman. There is one. It's rather depressing actually because it's a mixture of flub, bloat, and belly :((

Someone who works at a maternity store should know better. I probably would've asked to speak to a manager because I'm all hormonal and easily offended right now lol
  • I have a friend that had nausea so bad during her pg that she lost 16 lbs over the course of the entire pregnancy. She didn't even start showing until she was 7 months pg and as soon as she "popped" a bump, baby came within the week (2 months premature). He was super healthy and fine. All of our bodies and pregnancies are different.

It's okay, it's not just you. I'm glad I'm finally to the point where I can call it a bump with out being informed that I'm just bloated.

  • I'm 5'2" and this is my 3rd.  Stuff is happening down there.  I know it's not a hard bump with a big baby in it, but this isn't how i looked a few weeks ago either.  I'm calling it baby bump b/c the whole baby making process is making this bump.

  • I had coworkers asking me if I was pregnant at 11 weeks, so I think showing is definitely possible before 6 months, especially for people who have had children before or who have terrible abdominal muscle tone like me. I'm not going to say that it's all baby, because a big part of it is things shift in around and bloat, but some women are more obviously pregnant sooner.
  • Oh my goodness, things change the more babies you have. With my first I didn't show until 20 weeks and even then I had to accentuate it for strangers to see.
This is my 4th and I look like I did 5-6 months pregnant with my first. Fortunately, at least going by last time, that doesn't mean I'll be bigger at the end (assuming similar weight gain), I'm just showing a lot sooner. Can other mamas confirm this?

  • This is my first pregnancy and I am 14 weeks now. Definitely showing. Sometimes it is a combo of food, constipation and baby. But when the first two subside there is definitely a decent sized bump. I haven't told anyone at work but I catch my supervisor looking at my tummy sometimes. I barely ever worked out so my abdominal muscles are not even close to tone so that might have an influence on it. Can't wait till I can tell everyone and flaunt the bump!
  • I work remotely 4 days a week, and my bosses are both morbidly obese so they aren't going to say anything about a weight gain.  Still trying to play this one off until my salary negotiation at the end of the month...I'll be like 15 weeks!! Yikes.
