Tummy trouble continues/possible diarrhea?/thoughts on Enfamil Gentlease?

DD is still struggling.  We went to the ped on Friday who didn't really say whether DD has reflux or not but gave us a Zantac prescription.  We hadn't tried it yet because we wanted to try cutting dairy out of my diet and potentially going to a soy formula.  I don't like to switch things on the weekend because her dr isn't open and I'm always worried about a bad reaction.  So cue today and DD is being fussy like usual, but not worse. Then she has this massive blow out diaper that I think was diarrhea but DH thinks was thick enough to not be.  (Think of a smooth frosty.  Is that diarrhea?!)  After I got her changed she started screaming and wouldn't stop. I'd fed her an hour before, but I could tell she was hungry or not feeling well.  We've had her on newborn ready serve and had no soy formula ready to go; however, we had Enfamil Gentlease ready serve on hand and so I quickly got her 4 oz of that which she fussed through.  She's now sleeping.

I'm just not sure what's happening and it's the weekend which sucks worse.  Any ideas??

  • Gerber good start soothe formula did wonders for our DD. he was constipated and couldn't digest the other formulas

  • if she fusses while eating she has gas. i would take a digestive enzyme yourself to help breakdown before it gets to her. i would give the zantac. if its reflux she will make a grunting sound after eating and spit up or spit up and swallow which cause her to get gas and be fussy. you can also do little exercises with her like bicycling her legs and rubbing her tummy in the direction of the intestines and she will release gas. tummy time also helps.

Alimentum was the only thing that helped my DS. He had a milk protein sensitivity and a lot of the same symptoms your describing.
  • I would try the zantac. It worked wonders for my LO. And I agree with PP, not diarrhea.
  • At 2 weeks my LO started to show signs of trouble pushing out poop as well as a lot of discomfort from it. He would turn red, kick his legs, and scream for a while. He has always pooped but the process was giving him trouble. Talked to doctor and she said it was probably gas. She recommended gas drops with Simethicone as the ingredient and it's really helped him.
  • Our lo had these problems Dr put us on reguline Enfamil it's worked great for her
